New topic - possible targets thread

Start where? It should be McNeace and Manek starting next year, with Doolittle having a shot. Those 3 should play a lot. Trice isn't big enough to play next to Manek or Doolittle. Which begs the question, is Polla really going to be our backup 5 next year? Yikes.

Doolittle and Trice at 6’ 7” and around 230 are essentially the same size, but that’s where the comparisons end. Doolittle is more comfortable on the wing. Trice does his best work down low. Trice plays bigger than 6’ 7” 230, due to his high motor, quick feet and great hops.

A player like him who will almost certainly out work everyone else, can’t possibly be bad for a team like the one we saw last season. I say sign him if we can, unless there are better players available.

If Manek can't defend or rebound then he is shooting/scoring off the bench... If Maricevic truly is like a Vladimir Broadziansky (from TCU) type of guy he has to start... They are about the same size, averaged very similar numbers in juco, shoot very similar percentages from field and free throw line, etc. Similar recruiting rankings. Similar eastern European guys.

That implies Maricevic is as versatile as the kid from TCU, but if that is true, he starts next to Jamuni. If OU is going to get better, it needs to sign guys who would play in front of Manek and Doolittle.

I don't think any starting spots are guaranteed...

Maricevic is a 5 man not a stretch 4. Only attempted 2 threes all year at Juco.

Here is a video I found of him on youtube.

He was tied for second on the team in rebounds this year. As a true freshman. Please stop with the "Manek can't rebound" nonsense.

and was also leading the team in rebounding in Big 12 play before being taken out of the starting lineup.

Michael Finke is another grad transfer (from Illinois). 9.8 ppg 4.6 reb last season. 6'10 235 lb center. I wonder if OU could get a look from him. I wonder if Lon would want him. Probably not, since Jamuni will be a senior, but just another grad transfer on the market to consider.

Darnell Butler 6'4 juco shooting guard from Seminole State requesting his release from FAU. 19.2 ppg and 5.5 reb. Not sure if a possibility. #51 juco player in the country per jucorecruiting.com.

Not all rebounds are created equal. There are rebounds manifested by out hustling other players on the court while there are rebounds which just happen to come your way and all one needs to to do is place their hands on the ball and, whamo, you have a rebound, thus you need to separate one from the other and that is more telling.

So when the stats don't fit your agenda, we're supposed to just ignore them? I'll let you do the separating, thanks, and I'll look forward to the rebound-by-rebound breakdown you come back with; that'll be fascinating reading.

Brady's a very lucky fellow, indeed, if the ball just fell into his hands often enough for him to rank second on the team in rebounds.

It has nothing to do with it fitting one's agenda. Either there is a difference or there is not. Finding a wallet full of money is either different than earning it yourself or they are one in the same. I should have known that a retort, free of drama, was too much to ask.

Don Coleman 6'3 JR G is transferring from Cal. 14.2 PPG but a low % shooter, both overall and from 3-pt. More turnovers than assists. Played 31 minutes per game in a (weak) P-5 conference. Has 2 seasons of eligibility left. I don't know if there would be any interest at all. Just another name on the list of potentials.

Great, a Polla clone.

I wouldn't say that... the video you showed doesn't show him making jumpers, more him scoring around the rim. But he shoots 83% from the foul line which is good even for a guard.

This is from his coach:

“He’s a stretch 4. He’s better facing the basket,” Huey said, tabbing his star as a mobile power forward. “We’re running him in a position that will do him the most good later on. We could stand him under the basket all the time and throw him the ball. But this is better for him.”

And he averaged 34 points and 18 rebounds in high school... Although that was lower level rural basketball in Colorado. He has an impressive offer list though.

Either you have evidence or you don't. Merely stating that Manek's rebounds were mostly luck without backing that up in any way smacks of an agenda, especially given that I've never, in all my years of discussing OU hoops, on this board or the ones that preceded it, seen a player's rebounds discounted as sheer luck. That's just looking for a way to downplay a player's contributions.

Perhaps the NCAA -- and heck, the NBA too -- should break up rebound stats into four categories going forward: offensive, defensive, lucky offensive and lucky defensive.

If the numbers show Manek to be a good rebounder, so be it. I honestly never considered him a "good" rebounder this year but skyvue is correct in that he is the #2 rebounder on the 8th best rebounding team in the Big 12. However, Oklahoma led the Big 12 in defensive rebounds which is a very good stat.

5.2 boards per game is a respectable number, especially for a skinny freshman like Brady. Lattin averaged 5.9, Muni 5.4, and Brady 5.2.

And here I was hoping that a new thread would focus on possible recruits and not turn into any of the other threads bashing players/coaches/discussing the transfers...

That's all I'm saying.

If someone wants to critique our team rebounding, they'll get no argument from me. We definitely could have been a better rebounding team. But Brady tends to get singled out by some posters, and that criticism is simply not supported by the stats.

And for the record, I don't give two hoots whether a rebound is the result of luck or hustle -- just grab the dang ball after a missed shot. If a player exhibits a knack for being where the ball is after a miss, that's plenty good enough for me.

We were woeful at times this year with respect to grabbing rebounds and the taller players on the team were often singled out. My point is if we are to bring new players on 'board' do you want the Dennis Rodman style attitude (talking about just rebounding here) player or do you want some other trait? Again, the drama cupboard is always stocked.

Taylor from Evansville would help a bunch but so far he isn't taking our calls.
