Re: >>>>>Oklahoma [5-2] vs. Oral Roberts [1-7] Pregame Thread <<<<<

I love the fact Freeman takes advantage of his "tall" when he gets the ball, doesn't bring it down, and shoots it quickly. you're right about a niche. he's a zone buster. he just needs to get with some defense.

good game! they kept the board naysayers at bay! one of them predictably showed up when ORU made a run then he wasn't seen from again. duh.

Is pettiness next to Godliness? Thought so. How about giving it a rest?

If he's referring to my one post of the game (at halftime), I wasn't able to watch this one--but this guy really dampers my reading the game thread. Why I haven't posted as much per his request.

Guess people can say the same about me, but oh well. I call it realistic pessimism with passion! :woot

Re: >>>>>Oklahoma [5-2] vs. Oral Roberts [1-7] Pregame Thread <<<<<

Freeman doesnt seem to have a great basketball IQ. He just gets lost on D so often on simple plays.

That j from the elbow was deadly though!

19 assists (yes, 19). And 16 steals.

It's was a great team display of athleticism.

Man, when these kids put it all together, they're gonna be tough!

I know! He was so automatic with that little jumper. You can certainly see why a coach would salivate to get him out there.

Someone mentioned above that he was a bit slow afoot. That may very well be true. I hope he's just a second behind recognizing what's happening.

He was genuinely trying to mix it up in the paint defensively a little last night. He didnt come away with the ball, but he did show attitude and aggressiveness. Maybe it's clicking. If he could just learn the switches and recognize when he should be closing out that would resolve a lot of his defensive issues. Thats why I wonder if it's a basketball IQ thing. He'll get rubbed off on a screen and he freezes or his guy will drop out to the wing and he wont position himself so he can both provide weakside help or close out on the jumper. Those 2 things right there are his achilles at the moment.

I think Freeman's defense will improve as he learns to anticipate his next move. Judging by what I have seen, he doesn't have the foot speed to make up for being caught out of position the way our other players do. Experience will change that.

He also needs to work on his hands. Spending a little time with DeDe Westbrook would do wonders for improving that area of his game. Seriously, I'm sure our coaches have drills he can do, and likely are already doing them, to improve his ability to control the ball.

EDIT: Edited to correct something I said about Matt's redshirt season. Thanks for setting me straight, oldfan!

I was gonna do just that ... until I was forced to read some of the post-game comments made by the people you're apparently supporting.

nope. not gonna do it. as long as they do nothing but look for every moment to trash-talk this team and program I will, likewise, call them out for it. I am tired of just accepting some of our poor "fan" behavior.

For real. Did you see that one guy made a thread just to trash Dante Buford's start? I can't believe the behavior of some "fans".

Funny I saw that too.

Re: >>>>>Oklahoma [5-2] vs. Oral Roberts [1-7] Pregame Thread <<<<<

was that the same guy who spends post after post praising the team win or lose?

yeah, seems like a pretty poor comparison on your part.

Comments are made during the game in which there are a host of them to be made, either complimentary or not. What you did was wait a full day after the fact to post your comment. Either individuals have greater restraint after reflection or they simply do not.
