On to the lopsided in state basketball Series

Game can go either way honestly.. not just riding the fence I really have no gut feeling either way.

This team is one of those teams... can look really good one night and lay a total egg the next.

This is the truth. The Big 12 is arguably the best conference (according to the metrics) once again. Big 10 and Big East are pretty close to us as well. I think the Big 10 is probably better top to bottom, but they don't have a team near as good as KU and Baylor.

We are guilty of focusing exclusively on OU, but if you look around at other bubble teams, they would love to be in the position we are right now (Q1/Q2 wins, SOS, no bad losses). But by no means does that say that I'm satisfied with where we are at.

this is spot on

Do you think this game is a for sure win?

Many posters had penciled in this game as a win, but have likely changed their collective minds. We need to fight for loose balls and rebounds. We need to move w/o the ball on offense so as to get good looks for shots. We need to remind ourselves/players what the word defense means and pester the other team's offensive players like gnats on a fruit basket.

Man I hope so. Any road Big 12 game seems like a huge task at this point. Wish I had your confidence.

OU would have to lay a pretty big egg to lose this one, IMO.

Over their past five games, oswho beat TCU by 15 at home, gave Baylor a good game in Waco, beat KSU in Manhattan and Tech in Stillwater and lost big at WV. They hate OU and would like nothing more to beat us.

I'm counting on nothing in this game. I'll be thrilled with a one-point win.

Agreed, Sky. This is going to be a tough game. Osu has some talent - they just lost focus for a few months during conference play. Seems like they are playing closer to what they were at beginning of year.

This is exactly what is wrong with our program. We don't expect to win just b/c it's a road game? OSU has some talent, but outside of a couple of games early, they've been terrible. NET in the 70's. But you and others expect me to be proud of our program?

Nah. I'll be proud when we expect to win road games against terrible opponents.

I would argue that road games in conference play are always tough... Some REALLY good Sampson teams would go up and struggle at Nebraska, at Colorado, etc... And those were really good squads

I never said it might not be tough. I said we should expect to win, and be a little upset if we don't.

YOU were predicting Sweet 16 for this team not too far back. How are we going to win in the NCAA Tourney if we can't beat OSU on the road? I promise we'll face a tougher team in our first game than OSU.

If all goes well, the Bedlam spread will be a plus-42 for OU. I'll bet a lot of "football only fans" in the OU alumni base have no idea that we even lead the Bedlam basketball series.

The other day you accused me of "making stuff up." I didn't address it at the time -- I just considered the source. But enough's enough.

I'm not one to toot my own horn, but, agree with my opinions or not, I back up my posts with stats and facts as well as anyone on this board. For example, in the post you just responded to, I cited the results of oswho's past five games, four of which reflect very well on their recent play (the game in Morgantown got away from them but that happens to many teams up there; it could happen to us, too).

Let me repeat that rundown for you.

1. They beat TCU by 15 at home
2. They gave Baylor a good game in Waco (arguably better than we did in Norman)
3. They beat KSU in Manhattan (you might recall that we lost there)
4. They beat Tech in Stillwater.

In short, they have demonstrably NOT been terrible lately. And to downplay the difficulty of winning on the road in college basketball, especially in the one of the toughest conferences in the country, is just laughable. Honestly. A 12-year-old knows better.

The funny thing is, his initial post in this thread is a classic troll move. Criticize the opponent and say it is a game we absolutely should win unless we gag. That way, if we win, he can downplay the significance of a road win because hey, OSU sucks. And if we lose, it allows him to do what he enjoys the most, which is bash the program. Win win proposition in his eyes!

Oh good grief. First of all, it's FOUR games. That doesn't mean OSU has turned it around and is some team to be reckoned with now. Second, let's a take a look at those FOUR games. So they beat a TERRIBLE KSU team, a KSU team team that is 2-11 in conference play and 9-17 overall? Who cares? That is a game they SHOULD have won. KSU is brutal. Them beating OU has nothing to do with what should happen between OU and OSU. And TCU? Another not very good team. TCU's NET is 95. Two spots above KSU. I would expect just about everybody in the Big 12 to beat those two teams, regardless of location. So they beat two terrible teams, lost to Baylor (you may remember we played Baylor tough in Waco too.....it's just ONE game). The TT win was solid. Good for them. I expect OU will lose too if we allow them to 38 FT's, nearly twice as many as we do.

If you don't think this is a game we should win, then which games are? Certainly not at WVU. Even if you have us winning every other Big 12 game, that puts us at 9-9. Guess we should be celebrating that since that is better than Lon has done on average in Big 12 play.

OSU really isn't "playing better." They've found a couple of wins, and got LUCKY in the TT game with all of those FT's. They lose decidedly without that advantage. And stop acting as if I pulled my statement out of my butt without facts. I've posted records, NET ratings, and conference standings myself. Sorry, but at this point in the season I'm going to look at the entire season more than a couple of games. Because if you dive in on those games, you see it really doesn't mean much. lol at them beating KSU. Sheesh. OSU is 7-6 at home this year.

Edit: I'll say this. OU won't play well on Saturday and lose. If we lose, it'll be b/c we clearly didn't play anywhere near our best basketball. We'll get open shots. Will we make them? That'll decide the game.

this is a very very good take on the game tomorrow

I don't think he ever bashes the program. Legit critique is not bashing. He (or she, whichever) is one of the best posters on the forum.

This opponent started out like 0-9 in league play... They are worthy of criticism.

At what point do you have to admit that OU just isn't a very good shooting team? They are 7th in the Big 12 in FG percentage and 6th in 3pt percentage, bottom half of the conference in both. I believe we have enough of a sample at this point.

True, we basically have 2 good shooters on the team at this point. Manek and Doolittle.
