I think mike deserves one more year.

When fans were screaming for Venables to be fired and Mike to be brought back in, I posted on the Hale board that the Big 12 he would be returning to was very different than the one he left, that I thought he would struggle with the explosive offenses that the conference was now known for.

I wish I'd been wrong, but alas.

Amen. His defenses have been awful and he should be held accountable as the defensive coordinator. Plus his sideline antics have gotten old and are quite frankly embarrassing. I think Joe C made Bob move him to the pressbox. Either fire him or get him out of sight of the fans and players.

Unfortunately, Mike will not be out of sight from the TV fans, as a camera oftentimes shows the coaches in the press box. Given Mike’s history, the TV folks may have a camera directed his way, just in case he puts on an embarrassing show. Being constrained in a small room like that, no telling what angry reaction Mike might throw up onto the TV screens across the country.

I have absolutely no issue with his sideline behavior and neither did any of you until we started losing.

Not true. Mike has a lot of detractors and many were against ever bringing him back. Of course he has problems recruiting. What recruit would want to subjected to his public verbal berating of players on TV? His abrasive style and sideline demeanor work against him in recruiting.

Add to that the poor defensive showing the past few years. He changes schemes more often than he does underwear. We couldn't stop anyone on 3rd down last year. One year he decided not to play linebackers. Our DBs didn't ever play press coverage.

A lot of Sooner fans have wanted him gone for a long time. I think Bob used his gotcha with Joe C to keep Mike this year.

Seeing Mike makes me thankful we have a basketball coach like Lon Kruger. Enough of this football talk.....

Mike was run out of Arizona precisely for being embarrassing in his demeanor. If he was not a mess of a person, his on-field success would have been more than enough to keep his job there.


Here, his image isn't as important since he's not the head coach, but being an embarrassmetn to the university in your demeanor is not going to fly when you've posted embarrassing defenses in two of your three years back.

One play in each of three of our games turns those games to wins. We lost fair and square, but that's far off we were -- one play.

Had those three plays gone our way, that team would be remembered very differently. So the margin between considered pretty darned good (10-2) and lousy (the view many of our fans have of the team) was razor-thin.

Here is who OU beat last season. 9-5 La Tech, 2-10 Tulsa, 7-6 Tennessee, 7-6 West Virginia, 6-7 Texas, 2-10 Iowa State, 4-8 Texas Tech, 3-9 Kansas, 40-61 Total.

We got slaughtered by Clemson because we had mediocre talent and mediocre coaching. Nothing will change this season.

We don't need recruits that need coddled.

I'm sure you have the image of julian wilson getting berated from last year. Wilson started complaining and questioning his coach. you don't do that. he got what he deserved...and then he got blown by on the field.

The issues that players have with Mike are the reason why we are a soft team. They don't want to get yelled at. Do you guys think practice is all sunshine and lollipops?

Yet those of you wanting mike gone b/c of his antics are the same ones that want mark mangino back...go figure.

It is not just his on field behavior, although getting in shouting matches with your players whilst being routed by Baylor is a really bad look, off the field he doens't present the image you want out of your coaches.

you know what would be worse? A player yelling in a coaches face and the coach just standing there taking it

off the field he doens't present the image you want out of your coaches.

all i hear is lots of rumors. Show me a story that has been picked up by the media about his off the field antics.
