OU in at #17 (AP)

That's a joke. OU should be top 10 by its resume.

means nothing right now, just win games and "rankings" will take care of themselves

means nothing right now

You keep repeating that same line, but it's not true. It does mean something to be ranked, and it means even more to be ranked higher. It shines a positive light on the program, makes us look better in the eyes of recruits and rewards the players for their hard work.

To spend the rest of the season in the Top 15 or even the Top 10 would be great for the program, short-term and long-term, and the sooner we can get there the better.

This is great motivation for our guys. OU didn't just beat Wichita State, we handled them at their place AFTER they came out and dunked on us twice. They never had a chance to win, but are 6 spots ahead of us. You know they're already talking about it.

a little disrespect like this works wonders for motivation.

Recruits could absolutely care less about mid-December polls...and the players could care less, as well. Now, mid-April rankings, recruits care about. Mid-February rankings matter infinitely more than todays.

You dont know that. And I have seen and heard many players who do care about it. Objectively WE know it doesn't matter much, but I find it folly to suggest that neither recruits nor players pay any attention to it. They do. It's a point of pride and respect for many of them.

being in the top 25 gets your games on sportcenter highlights .. it does matter

I really thought we deserved to come in around 12.....bases upon our accomplishments thus far. Oh well.....just keep winning.

I don't have a problem with 17

I do have a problem with how high WSU is.

What's new? The Big 12 is ridiculously tough in basketball. Now that Tech and TCU have improved, there are literally zero automatic wins. I think it's the deepest the conference has been. The eventual champ will be lucky to escape conference play with fewer than 5 losses. Should be a fun season.

We should be 12 if not higher. Wsu should be prolly 15-20.

But that makes our dominate win look more impressive

Sorry, but I don't buy that for a second. Recruits are 16- and 17-year-old kids. They're as impressed by a team being highly ranked all season long as any other fan is, and as was pointed out above, the increased coverage that comes with a higher ranking is a huge plus.

Sure, the rankings mean more later in the season, as they do in any collegiate sport, but they still matter now.

I'm not particularly bothered by the #17 ranking, but the idea that we're slotted that far behind WSU after a decisive road win over them is pretty silly.

And being 8-1 instead of 8-2. We were the better team, better resume, but like all human polls-- once you get up there it's hard to get sent back too far. Look at Arizona they lost 3 in a row, dropped out, now like 7-3 and back up there.

Being #17 doesn't trouble me at all, I would almost bet it troubles LK even less.

And Florida, who has lost 4 of 5, dropped out a week back, but for some reason they are still getting a couple of votes.

Big 12 has 7 of the top 21, going to be a tough schedule to navigate.
