Grooms and Clark combine for 28.

Pledger and Fitz combine for 9.

:facepalm

How can our top two scorers combine for 20 freaking points below their average? I can offer one answer to that question: Pledger and Fitz moved like they had a ten pound weight in their shorts today! I realize neither of them are known for their speed and quickness. But every move they made was like watching a slow-motion video.

Re: OU-Iowa State Bizarro Box Score

Every time they get the ball the other teams opposing PG sags off to double team them on the post or if they try to drive. It makes life miserable for them and for Osby.

True. But the opposing team's PG can only double down on one player at a time. That doesn't explain why we can't move the ball around on offense fast enough to find someone open?

That also begs to question why we don't have players who can create their own shots? The absence of a go-to guy who can create and score at crucial times of the game, is one example of what some of us have been saying about the glaring weaknesses on this team. It's even more obvious when your top two scorers are held to a total of 9 points by any defense. I give ISU some credit, but not to that extent.

Re: OU-Iowa State Bizarro Box Score

Did OU have any fast break points today? I don't recall any and I don't recall many on the season.

Re: OU-Iowa State Bizarro Box Score

I don't really care how many points Pledger and them had, b/c as a team, we put up 69 on the road. That should have been good enough to win, or at least have the game come down to the final few possessions. Our defense wasn't very good at times. Too many wide open shots, and easy shots inside. And our offense has too many possessions when they turn the ball over in a fashion that leads to easy points. Gotta sure up the defense next year, and honestly, I'm not sure we can do it with this roster.

ISU had 18 turnovers, and still put up 80 on us. Not good.

In the early part of the season OU was generating turnover points by trapping in the half court. Lately, though, we're just settling into a half court match up zone or man as soon as we cross the half court line.

Since we're facing better teams now, maybe Kruger lost confidence in the team's ability to force turnovers, figuring it's better to get into a set defense right away and hope we can stop our opponents from scoring. It's odd, though, that we have all but abandoned our trapping defense. I thought it looked pretty good at times.

Re: OU-Iowa State Bizarro Box Score

If only we would have had Ray Willis instead of Cam this game.
