I got a little sick to my stomach when I learned that Utah State’s best player, Justin Bean, is a 6’ 7” forward from Moore, Oklahoma.

It didn’t get any better when I read that he is the Aggies' leader in points (24.0) and rebounds (12.3) per game. He also has a team-high seven steals and needs four points to top 100 for the season.

How did a player like Bean attend high school just up the road a piece from OU’s campus end up at Utah State?

tore his ACL as a high school jr .. was #22 player in the state as a senior .

and after his mission he walked on to Utah ST .

He'll be 25 years old before the season ends...imagine if we could keep a guy like Jalen Hill until he was 25.

First of all LDS player. Usu is 80%

Manyang odomes or James all ranked a lot higher!

Bean was a bean poke out of hs. Ranked 22 in the state.

Like I said: he's 24 years old.

Also, he's on a heater through the first 4 games. He's never averaged more than 12 ppg in a season and is a career 30% 3 point shooter. Yet he's averaging 24 ppg and shooting 54% from downtown.

USU has played mostly close games, but the average Kenpom ranking of their opponents is higher than ours.

USU
UC Davis - 189 (L, 72-69)
Richmond - 69 (W, 85-74)
Pennsylvania -- 214 (W, 87-79, 2 OT)
NM State -- 111 (W, 85-58)

OU
NW State -- 330
UTSA -- 262
ECU -- 152
Ind State -- 157

USU is favored by about 5 points today. Which seems like a lot considering we are the power5 team, have not lost a game, and are ranked higher in every computer efficiency ranking.

I would have guessed a 1 point line either way.

I expect this is going to be a grinder.

Thanks! That answered my question!

I should have known the LDS played a role in his decision. The young men who take time out of their lives to go on a mission are dedicated, that’s for sure.

I saw part of USU’s game against NM State. I was impressed with Justin Bean!

I actually have met his brothers and played some pickup games with them. Wonderful family, and they were all really talented OK HS players. I've been cheering for him, but even I wouldn't have projected him as a big difference maker for OU. Seemed more along the lines of a Tyler Neal.

Going to be a tough game.

Utah St is well coached.

20 minutes until game time.

Main thing that can hurt us is if their big starts hitting 3s. Groves is having a tough time guarding him out there.
