We need instant help inside. Only Money is a Big 12 player, the other postmen are no help and need to transfer to open schollies for someone that can play.

Disagree. We just need to add one more big guy like trice (with lazenby’s scholarship), and we will have a nice rotation for next year. Our point guard position is a complete dumpster fire on the other hand.

Doolittle and Manek will be Big 12 players. Are you just just talking centers?

Manek doesn’t play inside. He doesn’t rebound well and he’s soft. He’s a perimeter player. We need a stronger, more physical presence in the paint.

He plays the 4 position

Agree he’s weak but he’s still a Big 12 player

We could use a guy like Manek if he bulks up. Our 4 guy needs to be able to shoot 3s, like Spangler learned to do. That's what made our offense deadly. You couldn't double off screens because you left our 4 guy open for 3. Having 4 guys on the floor who can shoot a 3 is deadly, but that 4 guy has to be able to rebound, because only having your C rebound is a disaster.

Agreed. Plus, our guards like James have always rebounded fairly well. It'll be somewhat of a challenge on the defensive end but 3 pointers tend to create long offensive rebound opportunities so having 4 or 5 on the perimeter isn't that big of a problem on the offensive end. It's just one of those things we have to accept in order to get 4 shooters on the court.

I don’t care how you classify his position. When he’s on the floor, he’s standing at the 3 point line. He doesn’t do his work in the paint and he can’t play a lick of defense. He’s not an interior player.

This is false. I’m not going to look up the stats but in big12 play he was up there with Lattin and mcnease in rpg. He is actually a pretty good rebounder just needs to add strength. His low post game on offense and defense needs a lot of work, though.

The thing is rebounds you outfight for and rebounds which just happen to come to you are not one in the same.

Sampson’s centers did nothing but set picks at the top of the arc. I guess they weren’t interior players either

McNeace surprisingly the best per 40 at 12.0, Lattin 11.7, Doo 10.1, Manek 8.7

We need big men who can set screens, pass, have decent hands and can get some offensive boards and putbacks. Not guys who need to play with their back to the basket and will try to post people up.

Totally agree

Sometimes I worry we get too obsessed with height recruiting guys like Manyang, Polla, Kuath, etc. I'd rather put somebody that's 6'6 or 6'7 out there that can actually play. If Manek bulks up and Doolittle stays eligible, I honestly wouldn't mind having them as our starting frontcourt two years from now.

Actually, Manek tied with McNeace for second-most on the team in rebounds per game with five. Lattin had six per, Doolittle, James and Trae all averaged four.

Not bad for a skinny true freshman.

I agree 100%. Unless you can go sign (buy) the DeAndre Ayton's of the world, the college game is about guards and wings. For a big man I want the characteristics listed above. You want your guards and wings to win you the game, and you want a big man who is going to add value without needing shots.

I know I posted a while ago, but Daryl Morey was talking about they play, and they are pumping their fists when a big man is trying to post their guys up and play with their back to the basket. And he's right. Unless you have a Kareem or Shaq, those are bad, low percentage shots. And you can defend them with shorter guys, as long as those guys are sturdy. Harden guards big men on the block all the time and does a good job of it.

Yep. You want big guys who can run the pick-&-roll and maybe even shoot 3's. But you want big men who are athletic and who can catch a pass off the pick-&-roll & get to the rim, not old-time post-up players.

People need to get over the traditional positions....

Center
PF
SF
SG
PG

That terminology is now obsolete, especially in the NBA.
