some of those make you scratch your head from a cost/budget standpoint:

Davidson traveling to Texas?
Marquette at Virginia?

Add Wyoming at Fresno to that head scratchers list.

Not a lot of D-1 schools in the Laramie, Wyoming vicinity.

I think I prefer the exhibition games because fans get to see them. I know a lot of people don't like the early season games but I actually llike to see the young guys get some playing time. There is simply not enough minutes in a game for Ray Willis, Cade Davis and Stephen Pledger to all get significant minutes but that does not mean all three are not really good players. The scrimiage games and non-conference games often provide an opportunity for those guys to play.

I can understand why coaches would prefer these closed-door scrimmages against other D-1 teams, but as a fan it's a little disappointing. As you said, it's the first chance a lot of us get to see the young guys play, and I also think it was nice that smaller local colleges got a chance to compete against the big boys.
