Thoughts on Assistants

Just telling you what I’ve been told. I’ve been wrong before.

That’s total bull****. GMAFB.

We should dissolve the compliance department. Ridiculous.

You know OU gonna be clean. They aren’t hiring like others.

I’d rather be clean!

I'll never complain about that.

At the end of the day, Ou compliance hurts our competitiveness. There is really no benefit to such a robust and constrictive compliance team in this day and age. It is a non value adding expense on the books right now that aims to mitigate a basically non-existent risk (aside from title 9). The ncaa allows teams like ku to buy recruits and does nothing about it. Compliance should be there for title 9 legal risk and nothing else.

Doesn't seem to be hurting most of our athletic programs.

SEVERAL of the minor programs doing quite well nationally.

OU football has been in the CFP 4 of the last 6 seasons.

I honestly don't think THAT is what is holding back OU basketball either.

OU football can't take the next step because of it. Basketball is killed because of it. The minor sports don't have the same structures - maybe outside of baseball - that make it such an issue.

And I don't want us to be dirty, but living the the grey area every once in a while is fine with me. If we're not competing on the same playing field, that's a problem. And we are not.

So being allowed to "play dirty" only helps Bama, Clemson, and tOSU in football? Because nobody else has been better than us over the last decade plus.

UGA is no better than us, and I assume you think they cheat like dogs?

Using "compliance" as to why OU football hasn't been able to get over the hump is lame. No offense, but it is. Reality is it has nothing to do with that. We're well on our way to competing for another one now that the defense is getting better. We just had a recruiting class that was second in the country on average rating per signed player. And that didn't even include some really good transfers that we just brought in.

its not hurting either programs.

OU wasnt allowed to hire JD runnels a few years back for the same reason.

OU compliance blocks things that are legal! It hurts basketball the most and football a little bit. No one is cheating in any minor sports. They already are a financial wasteland why make it worse.

I disagree. It hurts basketball the most. Our compliance is way overzealous and it holds the program back. I don’t care if we pay players or not. Just get the talent on campus, be it coaches or players. The NCAA is a fraud anyway and they’re the biggest liars and cheaters. Currently, they’re completely impotent unless you tell them what you’re doing.

If we ever want to be on a level playing field with the rest of college basketball, we need to take the training wheels off and go to work. Stop holding the program back with compliance.

Also, LOL if you guys think the football program is squeaky clean. They’re doing stuff, just not on an SEC level. Yet.

Haha. Georgia cheats their asses off in recruiting, as do all the top SEC teams. They might even get caught up in the current scandal that is looming over Tennessee and possibly bama. The reality is, cheating in recruiting is commonplace and you can’t point to anyone in the top 10 recruiting rankings that doesn’t do something “illegal” in recruiting, including OU.

You can keep your head in the sand if it helps you sleep at night. That doesn’t change whats really happening in college athletics.

Ou football is also in its longest natty drought since they won their first one

Are we really advocating for the University we say we love to start cheating???? Geeze man I'll never be proud or on board with winning by cheating. I'm smart enough to know things happen, and we aren't perfect either, but as a parent, and older fan I want no parts of cheating to win. And for the record, every program accuses other programs of cheating, including us.

Hear, hear. I've lived through times when our programs got out of hand, and I never want to go through that again. If you want paid athletes, you might turn your focus to pro sports.
