About a coaching change. We get stomped in Maui and all the sudden eveybody is calling for Capels head. We win three non-conference games and everybody magically forgets how bad we originally thought this team was going to be before the season started!

If Capel could manage to have a successfull season with this group of players this year then I think it would be really good job of coaching. I don't think any coach out there could turn this years team into a post season tourny team. Capel is getting interest and even signing the caliber of players Sampson could only hope to be in on while at OU. The Caliber of players we want and the players we griped that Sampson didn't get.

This season was/is going to be disastrous and we all knew that. If this team ends up exceeding our expectaions then great, if not then we have to look at whats being done to make sure next season is better. Which so far is being done with Osby, Goff and young guys getting experience this season.

So let's cut Capel some slack and give all this we need a new coach crap a rest. If we're not seeing significant improvements in the next couple seasons then we can start talking about it.

He's had plenty of time and hasn't gotten it done. Yet you want to give him more time?

Pretty sure he got better each of his first three seasons until the disaster that was last season. And if there isn't a mass exodus of players we would have been pretty good this year. Capel deserves the oportunity to try to get this turned back around.

...but...but...but we're Sooner fans. We're entitled to 20+ winning seasons and NCAA tourneys every year...and according to many around here there's just NO EXCUSE for us not to get them.

Last couple games were a disaster, but there isn't much time for adjustments when you play three straight days. Let's see what happens when they get back to Norman, get some practice time and can get some other players involved in the offense (see: Cameron Clark).

Not making excuses for the performance, just trying to shed a little light.

Sorry it didn't start with Maui. It started last year. Most of know he should not have been retained.

I was hard on Sampson for not trying to recruit Texas almost at all. However, Capel has not recruited better than him. Both coaches managed to get the handful of big time recruits, both coaches for whatever reason failed to get high profile recruits that stayed I'm Norman for whatever reason.

The difference is Sampson recruited players that fit a system and everyone knew what that system was so even his low profile recruits had moderate levels of success and played hard and like A team. No one including Capel knows what the heck his system is and for the most part no one plays hard that was not brought in by KS except BG and Cade.

I was really hard on KS for not taking the next step recruiting wise and lack of offense after the final four. Now I would give my left nut to have a NCAA compliant KS back.

If you all don't mind, I nominate my post for post of the day. Aside from the compliance issues I was wrong on the potential success of a Capel and wanting rid of kS long before NCAA issues.

I love Jeff a a person but he just can't cut it as a coach. I have always been a Kelvin supporter and still consider myself one. I would love to have him back as our head coach.

He was a cheater at two different schools, don't want him back. We can find someone comparable without the baggage.

Don't really know much about him, but why has Randy Bennett never gotten a look at a bigger school (maybe he has and turned it down, I don't know)? He has done a great job at St. Mary's.

Bennett has gotten some looks from the West Coast schools, but nothing has ever materialized. Personally, I don't think his recruiting strategy would fit at a high major program...relies too heavily on international players.

Its funny how last week after the 3 wins the same posters who were all level-headed saying "we will lose some games we arent supposed to and will win some games we arent supposed to" are now running off the cliff. Well guess what - we lost a game we weren't supposed to and it sucks but I think I'll wait to see how the rest of the season plays out.

Exactly Wayne! 3 games in less than 72 hrs, away from home is really tough. Add on to that this team is really young and low on talent, it's hard to win ballgames like that. I didn't hear anyone calling for Capels head when we took UK to the wire in game one. If they can play like that more often they'll win some games they shouldn't. This team is going to continue to get better, we've witnessed it throughout the first 4 games. We just need to give them time and see how the rest of the season plays out.

It's not just that the team lost to Chaminade...it's how it lost to Chaminade and how it lost to Virginia...this team's ONLY chance at any sort of success this year hinged on effort and hustle, because talent isn't and wasn't going to get it very far...the lack of effort vs. Virginia and Chaminade points directly at the coach...you can't teach talent, but you can teach effort and it's the coach's job to get his players to play with it...we blamed last season's lack of effort on having a bunch of spoiled primadonnas...what's the excuse this year?

I think the real excuse last year is the same one as this year: Jeff Capel...

Blake Griffin just disguised or masked Capel's liabilities because he was (and still is) a phenom...

I agree with this. But in my opinion I think we need to see how this team, Capel included, responds to this adversity. If this team continues to play without putting forth effort to win or even be competitive the I agree Capel needs to be held responsible. But if they make a turnaround then Capel needs a little slack.

I'm not to this point yet.

This could be true...I also think it could have hinderd Jeffs learning curve at the big time level. Which is unfortunate for Jeff and OU if this ends badly. We'll find out one way or the other.

What can you say to a poster like this? :facepalm

Here's the bottom line: this is the guy's FIFTH season yet we have the least talent in the conference and it's not close. We can either make excuses or embrace reality. He simply isn't getting it done. In fact, he's flushing our program down the toilet.
