Tulsa Billionaire Becomes Thunder co-owner

Are there any Chili's in NYC? I think there is one in JFK, but have never seen one

One at JFK (I've never seen it) and one on Staten Island. So effectively, the answer to your question is no.

For what it's worth, I like Tulsa. It has it's issues, including a lot of lingering ill-effects from the race riots, but it has some endearing qualities as well.

McGills. Mmmmm.....

I work near one of the other McGills locations.

McGills is the one exception I've had. I'd go back there every time. Oh, and the sushi place on the hill. That's pretty good, too.

There is a Chili's and OTB on Knox/Henderson in Uptown...those restaurants were able to negotiate a longer term lease before the upturn and will most likely close when it expires. In addition, have never met anyone in my 6 years of living in Dallas who has eaten there...generally tourists from outside Dallas or Oklahoma.

That would be sacrilege to close the OTB on Knox/Henderson. Back in the day, even before OTB became a chain, that was the highland park butt hutt pick up spot on weekend afternoons!! That place invented uptown! Any hot painted up broad worth their salt was there on Sunday!

Damn, just tossed the George Strait thing out there as a joke because I was excited I finally got to see my favorite artist in his last trip here. I love the Thunder, I was very aware of them needing to schedule around the playoffs. Just wanted to lighten the thread up a bit. My bad.

I love living in Tulsa, I wouldn't trade it for anything. Have absolutely zero problem with OKC either, we're all Okies to me. I suppose I'll just sit back and watch everyone spin their wheels trying to convince the other side.

Tulsa got George Strait because OKC had to schedule around this thing called the NBA playoffs. They knew the weekend George wanted to be in Oklahoma that it would be the opening weekend of the NBA playoffs and OKC assumed correctly that they would be hosting a game on Saturday or Sunday. I have no real dog in the fight but if you are going to use the George Strait Concert as concrete evidence, you have to have the proper perspective.

Tulsa got George Strait because the BOK Center is one of the most profitable, successful multi-event areas in the United States.

It's the same reason that we got Paul McCartney twice and practically every other A-list arena tour since the place opened.

Oh - and speaking of things that can't be duplicated...

WT has mentioned the Gathering Place, but I think it's actually being under-sold in this thread.

The Gathering Place isn't just some "nice park."

It's going to be a transformational world-class urban park that is designed by one of the preeminent urban architecture firms in the world.

In the Raw. And Ti Amo (very close to the sushi place) is decent for Italian, while Charleston's (off of Yale near 68th street) holds its own versus any of the chain establishments outside of the higher end steak houses.

You are probably right. I wanted to push it harder, but technically, it isn't built yet, so I backed off. But from what I've seen, it is going to be an amazing place once finished.

Well now that it has been described as a transformational, world-class urban park it can no longer be said it is being under sold.

That will be a nice addition to Tulsa.

i looked at the renderings...looks great. I think OKC is doing something similar on a bigger scale. I think I heard it will be equivalent in size to Central Park in NYC.

The nicer tulsa is the better it is for the state. I don't get the need to have one better than the other.

I don't disagree. I was simply trying to offer MY point of view as to how things stand now. I hope both cities continue to grow and improve. They can feed off each other, and make the state an even better place.

Both cities will need to continue to push capital towards downtown development over the next 20 years. The re-urbanization of America is real and many people won't want to live in the 'burbs.

A bigger scale than the Gathering Place?

That would be pretty big. Phase I of The Gathering Place is $300 million, and the park will span ~6 city blocks, from around 31st to 26th.

A city park in OKC the size of Central Park? That would be enormous.... where are they planning to put it?

I've heard expanding the gardens area just south of the devon tower all the way south of the river.

They may have changed plans but it was one of the things they mentioned when they were constructing the scissor tail bridge. I'll try to find the info

yeah after looking it up more it doesn't come close to central park. not sure where i got that. maybe they were including all parks in the okc area
