UCLA/Kruger rumor.

But he generates discussion and board activity!

Yes and no. I acknowledged this in my previous post, but this thread has evolved into how dumb of an idea it would be to hire Mike Anderson. There really hasn't been a whole lot of debate on that, just lots of confirmation.

Do you believe he was wholeheartedly serious?

Mike is a good guy but a terrible coach. You could get a ticket to an Arkansas game this year for five bucks. haha

I like ABD, but the whole Mike Anderson thought was a really silly stretch to begin with.

But still, he does contribute to the board......for all of the haters out there.

Barnes turned them down. If this process hasn't humbled UCLA, I don't know what will. Some coach is going to end up with a job he never expected to be in the running for. They offered Barnes $5M but he shot them down.

It has become an embarrassment for UCLA...reminds me of NC State several years back when they pushed Herb Sendek out the door (who did a solid job for them)...and proceeded to get turned down publicly by candidate after candidate. Interestingly enough, Rick Barnes was their #1 choice (of about 5 eventual public interviews) as it was a few years prior to things heading a bit south for Texas. The sad part about this is that UCLA is technically still a blue-blood program. I can't imagine OU going through something like this in football much less basketball.

More Lon quotes from Eric Bailey...

“When something like that happens, you talk to the player that you have and the players that are signed,” Kruger said on Monday afternoon. “I guess that’s part of our world today. It’s unfortunate that someone can throw a name out there without any foundation whatsoever.

“The people of Oklahoma have been so great, and this is going to be our last job. I’m extremely excited about it.”

This week will include the completion of a six-member signing class. On Wednesday, forward Anyang Garang (6-9, 210) from Australia is expected to sign a letter of intent to join five other players who signed during the early signing period.

“It’s a very good group. And they really want to be here. That’s the thing. They are very excited about it,” Kruger said. “They can’t wait until June to get to campus. They’ll fit very well and combine with a really good core coming back.”

There's more about the returning players and such at the link

Any rumors on who UCLA is looking at now? They gonna have to go with a guy at a smaller school now?

Mike just couldn't recruit like Nolan, Nolan could go into just about any state and get the top recruits..fun games when hogs/UNLV played

They hired Mick Cronin. Good coach, don't see him as a fit, and no clue why he's leaving Cincinnati.

he was making 2.2 mil at cincinnait he is getting 4 per at UCLA and it is a better job

Will be interesting to see how this works. He is a maniac on the sidelines and seems to be wound as tight as a drum, which may not go over well in LA, especially if they struggle and he takes some heat from the media and fans.

Agree on the fit. Not sure the kids he'll need at UCLA will buy into his hard nosed, defense first style. It'll be interesting.

It is. And it's not close.

mebbe so. mebbe not. I think the whole money thing is overstated. But I do NOT think the culture is even close to being the same. The fans have a history of apathy overall unless the program is on top and Alford let it sink drastically. They needed a discipline infusion after Howland and instead it has all just fallen into complete mediocrity. The wins they have had post howland have been fools gold and the program has failed to attract fans or good players.

Alford went to three Sweet 16s in six years and was fired. Cronin went to one Sweet 16 in 13 years, and he coulda stayed as long as he pleased.

Yeah, Cronin is nuts and doesn't care a whit about offense. He intends to play defense, rebound, and beat you up for 40 minutes & win 50-48. Seems a very odd fit for UCLA. I don't see this ending well. I still have no idea why UCLA seemed to have no interest in Scott Drew. Maybe there's a huge buyout or something, but UCLA should've been able to pay a big salary & it's unquestionably a better job.

UCLA is far better than Cincinnati in every possible aspect and it’s not even close. Are you being obtuse?
