I think he'll get two more years, but only if he shows he deserves it.
How?
First, I think anybody looking at our roster right now would be shocked if we are competitive in the Big12 next season. So I don't ttink he will be indicted too much for next year's on-the-court results.
What would be a positive year for Jeff, in terms of him keeping his job another year, would be the following, IMO:
1) Recruiting - if it appears we aren't bringing in good players for 2012, then there will be a strong contingent of powerful alums pushing for him to go. He has to at least have the appearance of moving in the right direction from here forward.
2) Disciplinary issues - With WW, Tiny, and TMG gone, alot of people are saying we got rid of the "cancer" in the locker room. If we continue to have guys who get in trouble or don't listen to the coach, then that argument is blown out of the water. That wouldn't be good for Coach C. I know he isn't blaming the players publicly for what went down, but alot of people are, and that is probably what is buying him more time. You only get to use that defense once.
3) Heart, hustle, etc... - Didn't see a whole lot of it last year, despite an apparent wealth of physical talent. Seeing a team scrap, even if it's in defeat, would be a welcome sight for many of us fans. This team needs to hang in there next year and not show signs of quitting on Coach Capel, or they may be hanging him out to dry.
He's got an uphill battle, but he should be given the opportunity to show he can dig out of it. However, the leash should be short enough that if he shows enough signs that he can't do it, then we move in another direction in a fairly quick manner.
