Would you be against football players?

Should Capel entertain the idea of asking Stoops to let him borrow some football players just in case we fall short of getting a couple more elite players?

That would be sweet.

They are here to play football and that's where they need to be. Stoops shouldn't allow it and Capel should never ask.

What football players on the current football roster would be beneficial to basketball team?

Um, our roster is pretty full. Why would be fall short of players?

In short, no. Stoops would not allow it. Capel would not ask, should not, and has no reason to.

A football player would not join the basketball team until early January. It's ridiculous to even suggest this.

It wont happen. Stoops won't let it. Football is just about year round. Capel has already pretty much filled the roster. If he gets anybody else, they will be able to contribute more than one of our football players could give us from February to March.

The football/basketball thing tends to happen more at schools whose football programs suck and have their seasons over with by the end of November.

People generally make too much out of this "He was a great basketball player in high school" thing. Yeah, he was a great player because he was significantly more athletic than his competition, which is why he is at OU on a football scholarship. Put him out there against guys of equal athleticism, and suddenly it's not so easy to drive to the rim and lay/dunk it in.

I said it on an earlier thread and I'll say it again here, Stoops would never allow that to happen and Capel knows that.

+1

No point in having a football player on the roster if they aren't going to contribute.

This question has come up before. Stoops has even said he would entertain the idea of letting a football player(s) compete in both sports. I stopped believing it would actually happen a long time ago.

he said he would allow it, if the player would be an actual contributor to the team... and got real playing time... brandon jones was allowed to play baseball for the sooners a couple of years, because he got some pt... started some games in center i believe...

Justin McCay
Doubtful he would contribute anything. Most guys that don't even make 1st team all-conference their senior year of high school don't contribute much at upper division 1 programs, unless they are from the CPL. (Chicago Public League)

Last years football team probably competes with the basketball team. Franks, Bradford, Gresham, Broyles, Murray, would have all been much better guards than what we had last year as a group. The only problem is Gresham and Bradford would have to be the posts. Bradford played both post and guard in HS since he was the tallest player on his teams.

Nick are you serious on Franks, Broyles and Murray being better guards?

I think someone got it right. It happens more where a school has a crappy football team.

I think Stoops would allow it but joining the team in mid-January is not much help. Worked better for Jones because baseball fits better but he had to miss the conditioning and spring practices too much.
