'25 Coaching Carousel Thread

It's always painful seeing some of these excellent coaches who we almost certainly could have had last year getting mentioned for some of these big openings now. I'll get to see McCollum in person this week, and will also be keeping an eye on Colorado State and VCU and some of the other teams led by guys I wish were on our sideline.

Per Trilly, Keeps hearing Devries for Indiana, and that McCollum is now talking to Iowa asking the same questions he was asking Indiana. So I bet it's DeVries for Indiana. Sooooo Porter Moser toooooo West Virginia?

Agree, Early on Trilly was saying it felt like Medved to Iowa was almost certain. But now with McColluum talking to them who knows. But one thing for sure McCollum obviously wants to upgrade.

Lets have some fun
DeVries -> Indiana
Collins -> West Virginia
Odom-> Virginia
Medved -> Iowa
Moser -> Northwestern
McCollum -> Oklahoma

McCollum scares me with only 1 season under his belt as HC.. but his upside is prolly worth it regardless

Niko Medved has already agreed to terms with Minnesota. Devries has apparently turned down Iowa, and McCollum will probably end up there.

Tom Crean says he'd like to coach again. His stint at Georgia didn't go well, but he was good everywhere else. If Porter leaves, should Joe C. make a run at him?

He wasn’t all that good at Indiana. Missed the tourney more than he made it, although he came into a tough situation after the way it ended with Kelvin and how that affected the roster.

That's a heck of a hire, especially if they are increasing their NIL efforts.
Serious question, why is this a heck of a hire? Half this board wants the current Oklahoma head coach fired for exactly what he did this season at West Virginia had a decent but not great season and got snubbed by the NCAA from making the tournament. How is that different from the guy everybody wants Oklahoma to move on from? and yes, I am being serious not facetious. He also lost his last game to Colorado…

Fair question. Is his overall coaching record better than Moser’s? Like better than .500? Also, WVU was awful last year before he took over. He did a good job turning the team around. I think he had a more difficult situation year one than Moser.

Check out how much better he was in the same conference Moser came from. Then look at what West Virginia was last year compared to what OU was in Lon’s last year. Then factor in that his son, who was one of their two best players, didn’t play after Dec. 6. He has made the tourney as often as Moser despite only having coached 7 years compared to 21 for Moser. The resumes couldn’t be more different.

My comment was solely off Indiana making the hire. I'm not on here to debate Moser being fired or not. I've thought DeVries has been a pretty decent coach and if you can get the NIL up where it needs to be at a place like Indiana, then it's a heck of a hire in my book.

About Moser, I'm good either way if he stays or goes. I like some of the players here and the ones he is bringing in the recruiting class. I believe NIL for OU hasn't been where it needs to be to get prime position talent to Norman in key positions. If we are in the bottom of NIL in the SEC, I don't expect things to change.
