'25 Coaching Carousel Thread

I can’t imagine they’d want to do Kelvin dirty like that after he basically pulled their program back from the grave. Whether they should hire Kellen is another question, but once they made that public, it would be hard to imagine them not following through unless he leaves for another job first.
How many "head coaches in waiting" do you recall actually getting hired? What would it matter after Kelvin is gone? Hell be gone. It's a business. Most don't hire coached based on being nice or keeping their word. They get the best the can get

I didn’t think many schools want to immediately do something to alienate a guy who is loved by the fans, resurrected the program, and would undoubtedly continue to support the program. Again, I’m not arguing that I think Kellen is the guy they should hire. But they chose to make that promise and I don’t see them breaking it.

I do. Well see

Lusk posted that Moser and Villanova are already in talks and he is way ahead of everyone at the top of their list. Lusk seems to think it’s going to happen.
In basketball, that's a step up. Villanova is a better job than OU.

Not sure if Porter's earned that, but more power to him and best wishes if he gets it.

I don’t think it’s a step up, per se. But it IS a step into a program that values basketball. And that’s what I’ve heard (from my Chicago people) that Porter desires.

C'mon Indy. They've won two Nattys in the past decade and three since the start of the 64-team tournament. It's a better job than OU. Plus, Moser like big cities, so going from Chicago to Philadelphia would be up his ally. Like I said in the other thread, it's not a job he has come close to earning, but it would be a win-win if he got it.

If that’s true I wonder why he came to OU. It was no secret that OU’s support was lacking even under Lon’s success. He had to know it was going to be an uphill battle to get fans to the games. Wonder why he didn’t wait a few more years before making a jump to a P4 basketball school.

It will be bad for us if he leaves.

Tobin, as most probably remember, got hired at Iona after taking Fairleigh Dickinson to the 2nd round of the tourney (2023)

Iona had made a lot of tournaments in the last decade...the downside to Tobin (aside from his first name being Tobin) was that he had to follow Pitino.

(sidenote: also only his 3rd year as a HC, rough luck)

Seems too soon. But reinforces my new pm rule. Don't hire a coach bc 1 (or 2) tourney runs.. their record overall is much more indicative
