OU, OSU and Tulsa are all in the RPI top 50. OSU is one game back (and one-half from WVU) for a three way tie for third in the conference. This is a good year for college basketball in the state of Oklahoma.

Denver, I am very glad to see Tulsa making noise again. I don't know about you guys, but I loved it back when they had Tubby and Self. I hope we can continue playing them every year, as it is an easy road game for me to go watch when we play them in Tulsa!

I had to go check how Oral Roberts was doing this morning, as it's looking VERY likely OU, OSU, and TU are all going to Dance. Not likely, but ORU will have at least a mediocre shot at winning their conference tourney. I think they are 3rd or 4th in their conference, currently. Oddly enough, North Dakota State is leading.

Be amazing to have all for Oklahoma teams Dancing. Has that ever happened before?

Must have been 1983, as that's the only year between 1965 and 1991 that oswho made it to the tourney.

Neither ORU or TU made it in '83, but both made it in '84 along with OU.

From a quick glance, all four teams in the tourney in the same year has never happened. 3 teams making it has happened a few times.

With an RPI of 47 and only 1 win against a top 50 team Tulsa will probably need to win their conference tournament for a bid.

I guess I was wrong. I remembered OU and TU and ORU being in the tourney one year and I thought OSU was there too. It was right before I graduated HS so it woulda been early 80's.

If you always assume OSU sucks you will usually be right.

ORU only made the NCAA Tournament in 2006-2008, 1984, and 1974. OSU didn't make the NCAA Tournament any of those years. OU wasn't in the Tourney in 2007 or 1974. Tulsa only made the NCAA in 1984 during those years.

Tulsa from 1994-2003 made it every year but 1998 and 2001.

OU made it every year but 1994 during that span.

OSU made it every year but 1996 and 1997 during that span.

So just in the 90s-00s OU/OSU/Tulsa made it in the NCAA Tournament in 1995, 1999, 2000, 2002, and 2003.

OU/ORU/Tulsa did all 3 make it in the Tourney in 1984. That is probably the year cool was thinking about.

Last year OU/Tulsa/OSU all made it the Tourney also, so that's 7 times in history.

Not necessarily.

Their schedule is back-loaded with high RPI teams. They still have left:

@ #98 UConn (tough, but winnable)
@ #85 Memphis (they destroyed Memphis at home)
vs. #27 Cincinnati
vs. #36 Temple (they already won at Temple)
@ #22 SMU

They still have 3 RPI top 50 wins they could get out there, plus two other top 100 wins.

If they can manage to win, say, 4 of these 5 games (very doable for them), they would be in good shape, IMO.

Sure if they win 4 of those 5 games their RPI will rise & their profile will change. As of right now they lost to Oral Roberts, SE Oklahoma State, got taken to overtime at home by 7-17 South Florida and only have 1 top 50 win. That's not an at large resume that would survive any comparison with other prospective teams.

It would survive comparison with other bubble teams.

That's the nature of being on the "bubble." If they had a strong resume, they wouldn't be on the bubble.

All of the other teams they are competing with for spots have similar resumes.

Just look at Jerry Palm's "last four in" and their record against the RPI top 50:

  • Texas A&M (0-2)
  • Temple (1-5)
  • George Washington (2-2)
  • Illinois (2-2)

All of those teams have a profile almost exactly like Tulsa ... their RPI are in the 35-50 range and have only 1 or 2 wins against the RPI top 50.

Uh, actually, both Jerry Palm and Joe Lunardi have TU in as an 11 seed as of today.

Like has been said, they need to keep winning, but if they finish strong, I think they can get in without winning their tourney. ESPECIALLY if they finish in 1st during the regular season.

I would have sworn that happened too but I thought it was in the 90s. Apparently we both remember incorrectly.
