We didn’t have to see a Brady Manek quote to know this team had lost their will to win. It has been obvious since the blowout in Lawrence. We wanted to believe the players found it again when they came together to beat K-State, only to discover later that win was nothing more than fools gold.

I would like to think this team had one more run in the post season, whether it’s in the Big Dance, an unlikely scenario now, or the NIT. But, to be honest, I’m tired of having my hopes for a positive end to this season torn to shreds by a team with too many players who don’t seem to share my love for OU basketball.

That is obvious to anybody watching them. LK has lost them for this year. I'm sure the frustrations from losing and watching TY jack up 20+ shots a game is disheartening. LK failed the team in that regards.

I didn't get to watch much of the game yesterday, but I tuned in late. The game was "over" at that point, but watching McGusty play half-a$$ed defense was just unwatchable to me. I couldn't do it.

Trae Young’s lob

Tough to pin an entire game on one play. OU's issues Wednesday were myriad. But OU’s second-half momentum stalled and never quite picked up again after Mitchell Solomon batted down a Trae Young lob to Brady Manek in transition.

OU trailed by four points with under nine minutes to play, already working back from a 16-point deficit.

Here’s what Young said:

“I saw his man step up and I tried to throw a lob, and I don’t know what happened after that. I don’t know if there was contact of anything like that, but that’s been working all year. Brady goes and gets those, and I was surprised he didn’t get that without … I’m surprised he didn’t get that one.”

That was a huge momentum swing. TY made a great steal and then went for the big lob to Manek to really hurt Okie State and it backfired. The defender didn't come up on TY enough and he slipped back and stopped the lob.

But then he followed it up with an early shot clock long three that simply was not necessary. OSU was on the ropes. Make them play defense. Work for a good shot.

Trae is a momentum player who goes for the momentum play whenever he can (long threes, crazy alley oops, gambling for steals). Sometimes he should just take the percentage play.

One of the main problems with this team is there is no leadership from the older players.

Do the older players get po'd because TY shoots too much? It didn't seem to bother them early in the season - when they were winning - but for the sake of argument, let's say that's a problem. Can you imagine that problem not being handled if there were upper class leaders like Blake or Taylor Griffin? Capel couldn't coach worth a damn but he did have two good leaders his first 2 years.

As far as TY taking too many shots, it seems he always starts out the game looking for the assists but assists don't happen if the other guys either don't shoot or miss their shots. When they aren't hitting, he tries to do too much.

Another way of saying they've lost their "want" to win is to say they don't fight back when things don't go their way. They pout and feel sorry for themselves too much.

I was watching the Mississippi State/South Carolina game last week and in every timeout, the MSU coach kept imploring his team to be more aggressive. Did they do it? No. The announcer commented, "At some point, some responsibility lies with the players to do what the coach tells them to do!"

Double spot on!

saw a replay of that today the defender didn't touch the ball and fouled the heck out of brady on that play ..

Loose balls, offensive rebounds, tipped balls. If you want to win, you do what it takes to get a rebound.
5.6 McNeace
5.1 Lattin
4.9 Manek
4.6 Doolittle
4.4 James
4.2 Young

These are the rebounding averages in conference play. It concerns me when the tallest players on the court are averaging one more rebound per game than the shortest. If Young can create rebounding space or get to the ball under the rim, I expect someone eight inches taller to be able to do it. I hate to give up an offensive board. It may be worse than a turnover. You don't even get a chance to do anything if you let the other team get an offensive rebound.

I don't really care about showmanship. I want something simple. Rebound the ball. They missed a shot, and they paid no price. Instead, they got another thirty seconds to find a better shot.

This is about effort, want to. If you want to, you learn to get that rebound. When we played well, we were tipping the passes, rebounding, hustling.

It isn't peculiar to this team. Sometimes, it happens to all OU coaches when we play Kansas. Intimidation?

My favorite players have usually been the street fighters: Quannas White, Mookie Blaylock, Abercrombie. They rose above their abilities.

Look at minutes played!!! TY played over 37 minutes a game in Big 12 play. Jamuni and Kadeem played 18 and 19 each. Might as well compare apples to watermelons. Open your eyes!!!

It is all effort.

We actually were one of the top rebounding teams in conference

100% agree. That play and the Odomes missed layup on the ally-oop from TY were killers. But a subpar first half doomed that game

How dare him explain what happened! You are truly unbelievable.

His reponse was passing the buck.

The kid is in for a rude awakening in life.

I would have thought this season would have done that for him but apparantly not

It is not passing the buck to explain what happened. He threw a lob pass, Brady didn't finish it, probably because he got fouled.
