Can this be a competitive starting 5 next year if the worst happens?

If worst case happens and OU is going into next season without Tiny (accepted $3,000), TMG (being reported that he has skipped down and might not be back), WW (NBA), Orlando (transferring to UCO) then OU is going to need to pull out 3-4 juco players just to TRY and be competitive next season...

If OU pulled out Carter, Aziz, and Washington would that be enough to put OU in the NIT or better next year? Or is OU looking at a 10 win season even if they get all the juco guys they want?

PG: Marquise Carter (6'4'' 205)- Averaging 17.2 ppg, 5.5 apg, and is shooting 38.3% from behind the arc. The Three Rivers CC point guard prospect is being recruited by Wichita State, Iowa, UNLV, Gonzaga, and Oklahoma. His team is playing in the juco national championship tonight.

SG: Cade Davis (6'5'' 200)- Averaged 10 points, 4 rebounds, and 1.7 steals per game as a junior. Led the team in steals and shot 35% from the 3pt line. Kept OU competitive in most games with his heart and desire to win.

SF: Cameron Clark (6'7'' 200)- 4-star player... #30 overall player in the class of 2010... Total package small forward with size, strength, shooting and scoring ability, and defensive ability. Averaged 21 points and 7.5 rebounds as a junior.

PF: CJ Washington (6'7'' 215)- Averaged 19.1 points and 13 rebounds per game for Connors State College. Led his team to the juco tournament with a 30-2 record this year. They were upset in the national tournament, but Washington had 24 points and 14 rebounds.

C: Aziz Ndaiye (7'0'' 245)- A second-team Region 18 selection, Aziz dominated in the paint for the Eagles last season. Aziz ranked No. 1 in the league in offensive rebounds, No. 2 in blocked shots and 18th in points per game. named MVP of the Basketball without Borders Camp in 2004-05. In 2005-06, he was ranked in the top 5. That same year, he played on the South African Junior National team. In 2006-07, he played in the Senegalese Championship earning best young player honors.

Bench: TJ Taylor, Andrew Fitzgerald, Stephen Pledger, Ray Willis, Kyle Hardrick.

No...not enough scoring or experience. We would look like one of Texas Tech's teams...

Tech is in the NIT, so that would show significant improvement for OU after this year and with all the talent lost.

If we lose that much we need to bring in more people, at the very least bodies unless Ray and Kyle have improved by leaps and bounds.

All things considered, that would be a decent roster. I don't know if they could make the NIT, but I don't think that group would produce a nail-in-the-coffin season for Capel if they played hard and showed improvement.

You are correct.... That is only 10 players. OU would have to land another 2 guys out of either high school or juco in order to complete the team.

That other juco guy (the first name that came up) would probably be another one and he would be a combo guard or point guard.

C.J. Washington seems to be a rebound go getter and thats one thing this team needs is someone who will go get rebounds....I do not care if he can score but if he can play defense and get rebounds and be a blue collar guy than I hope OU can get him. Heck Murray State wants the kid and they are playing today......

Capel would definitely have to prove his coaching worth with that team. If it's Kelvin or Eddie Sutton coaching that team then I think they have a chance. We'll see with Capel.

What about this roster next year.......

N'Diaye/Fitz
TJones/Washington
Clark/TRoss
Davis/Pledger
Carter/Taylor

Pipedream, yes. But still a possibility.

On paper that team could be good defensively, assuming Carter comes in and gives good defensive effort and technique defensively that team could be could salty. We know Cade will be a good defensive 2 guard, Cameron assuming he adjusts to the speed of the college game quickly will be an adequate perimeter defender with his skill set and good mind. You would have to assume Washington would be a better match up for all the hybrid 4s in the league. Then Aziz's size and shot blocking would of course be an upgrade.

It really just comes down to where the scoring will come from, scary thought is I think some of our best scorers might be off the bench in the form of instant offense in Pledger, Fitz and Taylor.
On paper you would assume this would be the projected points per game for each player.
Carter - 9 points
Cade 15 points
Cameron 12 points
Washington 9 points
Aziz 6 points

Starters 53 and I think that is really generous/optimistic for all the players.
Bench
Fitz 6
Pledger 6
Taylor 6
Others 2

Bench 21

72 points per game which would be something but still massively optimistic along with the fact that we really don't have a go to scorer.

In that lineup a guy like Cam would have to come in and really carry the load on offense unless Cade continues to expand his offensive game. Or Washington or a similar juco surprises me with good back to basket moves along with a good midrange game.

If we had a good half court offense I could see that lineup being successful offensively but that would require some really good X's and O's.

Like Sooner23 alludes to in a lineup of that Terrence Jones and his offensive skills set, especially when paired with Cam could be perfect.

I hope we average somewhere in the 60s slow down games and win close low scoring games and try to win 15-17 games. We just don't have the scorers to try and play a faster pace.

OU needs to bring in as many players as possible. Maybe atleast seven. Best three players are going to be Davis, Clark, and Fitzgerald offensively. Steve Pleder is going to be in there next. you backup pg as of right now if TMG is gone is going to be Cade Davis. I suspect if TMG is gone OU is going to bring in West and Carter. But I still ting Davis is the backup pg if you bring in both of those guys. I think west is behind Taylor in pt. The biggest thing that will hurt is we're back to not having a dribble drive guy. Add to that, we don't have a low post scorer if Gallon is gone. So if that's the potential lineup, who know?

Capel's biggest recruiting efforts need to be directed at Willie Warren. Outside of Warren, he needs to throw the kitchen sink at Jones and hope a miracle happens.

Agreed, and that kitchen sink needs to be made of pure gold. Shiny, gleaming, pure gold.

What's crazy is that even though I think Jones may be the next Garnett/McGrady and Aziz may be the next Alex Wangmene/Mamadu Diene, I think getting Aziz may be more important for this current team because of his size and defensive ability and our lack of either.

I love Jones and think he could be a star, but I also think he could provide us with some of the same problems we had last year....a freshman who plans to be one and done that doesn't play defense and wants to take 20 shots.

Something to think about regarding that and maxing out at 13 next year is that Cade is the only senior, and thus we would only have one ship to give in the next class. Some of the guys signed this year would have to not pan out and leave for us to have more than one to give, and I think everyone could agree we need to avoid that if possible.

But Capel could be thinking my back's against the wall next year and let's fill this up with 13 to give us me many options as possible. I would sign to 11 and leave one open for a transfer or a defection from a signee from another school who loses their coach. That would give us 2-3 for the next class. By all accounts, we're in the mix for a lot of guys in Texas in the 2011 class.

One of our biggest problems down the stretch was we couldn't get buckets in the paint. There is no plan to change that right now. We have no dribble drive guy or not low post scorer. So basically we'll have perimeter shooters again. That needs to be adressed quickly and the guys that we've been mentioning in recruiting up to this point arent adressing that. They may be good support players, but they won't address that need effective. The guys who can address that need are Tiny Gallon and TMG unfortunately.
