Capel can Coach

I still know we are going to lose some along the way, but Capel can coach...

He has my support for another year no matter what happens in the rest of the season.

I always though Capel did a pretty good job his first year with nothing. When he had Blake, he was obviously successful. I still think if we weren't in North Carolinas region, we'd have been in the Final Four if not the Finals. Last year, everything was set up for another run, and the bottom fell out. Sure, Capel deserves some of the criticism for recruiting, but nobody could have expected the drama. This year, expectations were at an all time low, and I was doubting as much as anyone. This team, the last four games, has played at a level I wasn't expecting. We should embrace this team and give Capel some support, because he has proven he can coach and the future looks kinda bright.

Well, he didn't do much coaching last year so was he a bad coach last year? This year has been pretty bad but we are on a 4 game winning streak against some of the lower tier schools and a few that were overrated. Is it safe to proclaim him a great coach now? No, because we could easily lose the next 5 or 6 and be in a tailspin.

I will also add I believe he has earned another year, IMO, and if we make the NCAA next year then the pressure should be off. If we don't make the dance then all bets are off.

Think it's also fair to pint out the program is in it's current condition due to capel. Hopefully can get us out of it...the last few games sure do give credence to that but we must keep improving.

not saying he is great... but he is due some respect... he did some coaching last year, they just didnt listen very well.. Baylor is pretty good, overrated, probably but still pretty good.

Yes I was very critical of Capel earlier in the year, and I stand by that. OU shouldn't lose to Chaminade. OU shouldn't struggle to beat some of the worst teams in Division 1 basketball.

That being said, coach has this team playing much better than I ever thought possible this year, and for that he is to be commended. I am once again excited about the future of the program, and that's a good feeling to have.

I just don't see what threads like this accomplish, other than to divide the board. Just be happy with the win and move on. That makes you the bigger person.

I have always been on the side of keeping Coach Capel for next year as long as the team played with a lot of effort...and have been one of his supporters all along. With that said, I'm not big on starting threads like these. Most of the posters who were down on Coach Capel are still posting, and excited about the turnaround...completely unnecessary to antagonize them. And certainly no reason to disrespect their opinions.

Those select few who are more concerned about being "right" on a message board than OU winning? I just genuinely feel sorry for them.

All I know is that I predicted two conference wins, and hope the my plate of crow continues to get piled on so the team can make me choke on that two-win prediction.

The chaminade game didn't bother me much because in the past chaminade has beaten better teams than us in that tournament. I was more bothered by the Virginia game because we looked like we didn't care, like we had already mailed it in.

Then the near losses to NC Central, Maryland eastern shore, and UCA. However, the wins over CU, at ISU, and today have me feeling better about the future. The tech game would have been included in that list of they weren't just run out of the gym last night.

I think it's crazy to proclaim Capel is a great coach at this point. In time I think he can be with some good assistant coaches,but he's a long ways from that point yet. I do like what I have seen over the last 7 or 8 games though.

You sure none of the blame for last year could be led to the fact that we only had Warren for 8 games during the big 12. After that we had to rely on 4 freshmen, Davis, Wright and Crocker. And Warren was only truly healthy for 4 games.

So we only have our best player healthy for 4 big 12 games and neither Crocker nor Wright stepped up.

Sure, Capel gets some blame...but your being fool if you don't take into the consideration that Warren's hurt, we have 4 freshmen playing significant minutes, and Wright and Crocker never improved that much from their jr years.
This year we only have 3 returning guys and your expecting Capel to have a top 25 team...its just not realistic expectations. You can assume whatever you want for this team next year.

The Virginia and Chaminade game were the results of having a young team having to play back to back games. Young teams are not going to play good if they have no time to prepare and they not having any rest as well.

I never said I expected a top 25 team thus year. Not sure where you surmised that but it's wrong. I expected us to win 3 less games than we have right now and thats far from top 25. LOL
