Casey Arent is visiting Wednesday

I really want this kid. I think he'd be a good fit for what LK is trying to do, and I think he might be a diamond in the rough. Kind of like the big center for Pacific a few years ago that did so well in the Dance. Hamran, or something like that. From reading about him, that is who Arent reminds me of, a bit.

I think you mean Omar Samhan, who played for St. Marys.

Here's an interesting article from December:

The Highlights:

  • Was being recruited by Cal, Washington St, and Colorado
  • Greyshirted his first year out of HS but didn't focus much on his schoolwork
  • Taking 19 credits in both Fall and Spring to get eligible for 2011
  • JUCO coach says he has the complete game

19 hrs isnt that hard...

I also believe that the wyoming transfer counts towards next year not this year so he could actually be taking Nic's or Washington's scholarship.

Nope. If he is on campus, and taking his mandatory red-shirt year, he counts as a scholarship. Unless he is walking on, but I have no reason to believe that is the case.

13 is the only number. if goff and hardrick are out, then kruger has 2 to give. if they are both in, none to give. if either one of them are out. then the number is one to give. if he wants to offer more than that, then someone else has to go. cj and nick are the likely canidates (because those are the positions that are being recruited.) it isn't likely that he would run off tyler if he wants to ever recruit an oklahoma kid. but, cutting nick and cj just to have two more this year would be a loser because they are the only two seniors and there would be nothing to offer next season. my guess is that if goff makes it, he will sign the cal. juco center and that will be it. without goff, then he would probably add a transfer to warehouse. this is probably kruger's last dance. and it is probably unlikely that he has any desire to come in here and take a two year beating while waiting for some long term plan to come together. if he can find a player better than one he has got, no matter how many of them. he is likely to sign them and cut someone loose.

I have said this before and I know if sounds harsh. But if I were Kruger, I would cut Hardrick in a moment if I had the opportunity for a better player. The reason? He did not make his grades and became ineligible. If you aren't good enough to get playing time, your only saving grace is to care enough to get an education while you are helping the team in practice.

In my opinion, anytime a player fails to maintain his academic eligibility he has broken the contract of his continuing to be on the team. He should only get to stay if he quickly corrects the academic issues and the coach decides to give him grace.

C.J. Washington isn't going anywhere people. Come on, he was a slid contributor last year and is a good rebounder and post defender off the bench.

i agree, cj made solid contributions every chance he had. and i don't think kruger will pull a billie giespie and run off a bunch of people. but, he isn't worth the 2.2 million and i don't want him coaching the team i root for if he doesn't make some recruiting moves and personel decisions that get the team beating all the want to be's and competing tough with the top level teams.

Agree 100%.

There is no such thing as "counts towards next year" in scholarship limits for college basketball.

Each team gets 13 scholarship players. Period.

Unless you are a walk-on like Barry Honoré, a transfer that is redshirting counts toward the 13 limit.

Has this been confirmed anywhere? We know for a fact that Hardrick was ineligible for spring semester?

Based on what I was told his GPA was, there is no way he would've been eligible.

Exactly.

Think about it this way. If a transfer is enrolled in school and attending classes, he has two choices: a) pay for the cost of his education out of his own pocket, or b) count toward one of 13 scholarships available.

It's really that simple.

Does anyone have a link to whoever is pushing this "counts towards next year" stuff? I think Ada said he had read a report on another board that said something to that effect.
