Casey Arent is visiting Wednesday

Does anyone have a link to whoever is pushing this "counts towards next year" stuff? I think Ada said he had read a report on another board that said something to that effect.

That rumor is like a cockroach, it just won't die.

Hope his visit goes well today. From what I've read, I like this kid better than Jurick, and POSSIBLY better than Goff. I know it's hard to compare given they didn't play against similiar talent, but I like everything I've read on Arent.

One of the rumors that I've heard on Arent is that he's looking to redshirt next year. Has anyone else heard this?

If true, then I don't know why we'd take him. Is M'baye going to sit next season? Why would we have two bigs, on scholarship, sitting through an entire season?

Maybe the rumor is not true and Arent wants to play this coming season.

My preference is for him to play, but him sitting wouldn't be bad either. That means we'd have both him and M'Baye playing the year after Osby and Fitz graduate. And we'd have great depth for the 2012 season.

Good point.

Good point.

Great point IMHO.

I'm positive that we will be better next year with just the guys we have returning, whether that is above .500 better, NIT better, not sure, but as a fan I will be happy to see a competitive team that is well-coached and prepared to play.

The idea of rolling out two posts that have been working in the weight room and practicing with the team for the 2012/13 season to mix in with all those Sr.'s and both of them having two years left in the program could be the kind of boost that get's OU contending for the conference.

if it was going to be ok to plan for the 12/13 season, they wouldn't have fired capel. this program needs to be stopped on a dime and turned in the other direction. 3 losing seasons in a row would brand a program in a way that would hamper future recruiting. krueger is a winner and i'm pretty sure he has no intention of taking a season off to lose. as he should, he is trying to find a few kids that can contribute right now. "if" he gets this kid. and "if" either goff or someone better can contribute next season. then redshirting arent is not such an outlandish idea. and yes, the current group will be alittle better next season. and they will be better coached. but, they need to be alot better. and they need at least 3 new starters that are better than the ones they had last year to get there.

I think Krueger gets a pass from the public and the national press/general perception for a bad season next year. Had it continued with Capel then perception is different. But with the coaching change we went from a team in "freefall" to a "rebuilding" team. We have a proven coach who will be given great latitude for success next year.

There is absolutely no reason for this team to have a losing record next season and that would be totally unacceptable. I don't care who the coach is.

I agree, personally I think the context of a "bad year" would be barely above .500 overall and a terrible conference record.

I say pull a KState. Redshirt Arent, M'Baye, Tyler Neal and Calvin Newell. M'Baye has to be redshirted, Neal could certainly help but needs a year of seasoning to develop -- and in my opinion should have been redshirted last year, and Newell has no future here or in the NBA except at the point, and with two junior points on the team, should be redshirted adn made to work on his ball handling 24/7 for a year, and then that would give him two year to start after playing behind Blair and Grooms the year after his redshirt year.

Normally, I'm not a fan of redshirting anyone, but this program is in shambles, we have no freshmen coming in, we are top heavy with kids that are not going to win too much, and if Kruger is ever going to be given a pass it will be next year.

My plan would be: 1) recruit like hell and try and sign several good high school players next november; 2) redshirt Arent, M'Baye, Neal and Newell, so as to allow for their development and better distribution of players by graduating class, and 3) and then try and win as many games as possible, with a post rotation of Fitz, CJ, Thompson and Honore, wing rotation of Osby, Pledger and Clark, and point rotation of Grooms, Blair and Franklin.

Even without the redshirts, this team should be able to finish at 500 or better and win more than 4 games in conference. Then, with a few good freshmen, our redshirts, and Fitz, Osby, Pledger, Clark, Grooms and Blair, and another offseason, we should be really deep and able to be really competitive the following year.

We are in on A LOT of high upside HS kids for 2012 and 2013. I wouldn't redshirt anybody that didn't have to redshirt.

I was sort of thinking the same thing, if you think the team isn't going to be very good, why would you redshirt anyone unless you had too or the kid really wanted too. I still like the idea of redshirting the two posts, and building for 12/13 season, but as far as current players, I wouldn't redshirt any of them.

all good points guys. the fans may give kruger a pass next season. the media may give kruger a pass next season. future recruits may give the program a pass next year. but, my point is that what makes anyone think that kruger is willing to give kruger a pass. he is a winner. winners don't give themselves a pass. they win as many as they can whenever they can. he will put the best team on the floor next year possible with the available personel. then, figure out how to do the same thing the next year.
