Castiglione this morning on LNC renovations

..........

On one hand, I'm glad OU is trying to keep it clean, but on the other, I think they're hamstringing the coaches who are trying to compete with schools who have the gloves completely off.

Agreed. And yet, the 2015 OU football team made the Final-4, and the OU men's basketball team is currently rated #1.

Also, the men's basketball team completed last semester with a 3.04 GPA.

These are good times for student-athletes at the University of Oklahoma, and for OU fans. I am trying to do my best to enjoy it.

there seems to be a common denominator with these guys with inside sources....they can't stomach anybody questioning their source or asking questions. Believe every word they say or they are gone.

Good riddance if that is the way they want to be
I'm 100% the exact opposite. I want information. In the preseason, garyeb comes on here and says Cousins will be the point guard. Immediately, he's mocked.

I post and read here in the hopes of getting detailed information about our basketball team. For the longest time this was the ONLY place to go.

If I wanted uninformed analysis I'd watch the presidential debates.

What I found funny about the backlash to gary's posts was that he wasn't speculating but reporting for actual practice observations.

Nothing you said here contradicts what I said.

OUleopard and now vbdad took their ball and went home b/c people questioned their source or asked for clarification or had a differing opinion. If that makes you not want to post then don't. I'm kinda shocked that vbdad decided to leave. He is a great poster and nothing in this thread should have caused him to leave. Again, it sounds like something personal with him and JOe c and he has an axe to grind

the ironic thing is that vbdad said that the compliance department shouldn't be as involved and harrassing the coaches and players. When it was brought up that we have had violations recently he said well maybe they should have been more proactive previously....does this not compute with anyone else? The office should should stop harrassing now but should have harrassed previously?

The LSU win should accelerate the renovation. Surely some rich alums will step up.

Sadly, it's going to take more than that.

To truly accelerate it, we need an NC. Not a final 4, and not a sweet 16 but an NC.

The complete buzzkill would be a first round loss. I hate to even mention it but let's face it, that is our history as a program in the NCAA.

I actually believe this team has the guns to win an NC. Of course there is tons of luck involved regarding matchups and health.

Do any of you think Kruger isn't running a clean program? Dotson wasn't charged and his head coach said he is one of the best kids he has ever coached. Good enough for me. I hope all that are against him want Mixon kicked off the football team and Shannon!

So when Hornbeak tells the coaches he is leaving when school is out in May we shouldn't be able to sign a player in April for the next fall. This is what our compliance department didn't let them do.

FYI multiple athletic directors were at the game today.

I'm done posting for awhile.

Appreciate your info very much and hope you still hang around.

Help me understand why OU blocks a transfer if the coaches know a player is leaving? Even if they didn't block it and Hornbeak stayed wouldn't the issue be the transfer wouldn't have a scholarship or he would take one of the next years scholaships? I don't see how this could have anything to do with compliance but I'm not a school administrator.

Do you think other AD's are interested in hiring Kruger from OU? I don't see him leaving at all as I think he's tired of moving and I don't think many programs would offer him more than what OU is paying him given his age and the fact he's probably not going to coach more than 5 more years, IMO.

Yeah I do too. I think the biggest thing is we need some luck in the tourney bracket like not playing Duke less than a few hours from Durham or Kentucky a few hours from Lexington or even playing either of those programs at all.

That's my biggest concern is we get screwed with a crappy matchup in the round of 16 or 8. Kinda like when we played Louisville in Birmingham in 88, that was a tough matchup but we won it anyway.

We've played 29 first-round games in the NCAA. We've been upset (according to the seeding) just six times, with an overall record of 19-10.

Don't buy into the negativity.

FWIW, In that 1/2 hour "Men of March" special that CBS Sports ran on him a week or 2 ago, he unequivocally said that while he didn't know how long it would last, but OU "Will be our last stop."

Oh yeah, I know! I'm as big a defender of Sampson and Kruger's record in the first round at OU as anyone. However, it is what it is. Yes, we overachieved a bunch of years to get an invite but nobody remembers that but a few of us. However, everybody remembers we lost in the first round especially the OU football fan who only follows basketball when we are really good.

Louisiana Lafayette
Manhattan
Temple
Stanford
Indiana
Indiana State
Wisconsin-Milwaukee
San Diego State
North Dakota State

Those are all the first round losses in my lifetime (not including the loss to Dayton which was actually a 2nd round game though it was OUs first game; tourney was only 48 at the time).

Gary, vbdad, Coach, and OUleopard are the only posters I really take notice of on this board. They're the only ones who have actual and reliable inside information. They're protective of that info and understandably so. They also seem to be a little sensitive about adverse reactions to their info and that is unfortunate. This is a message board and people, unfortunately at times, have opinions, ignorant and misinformed as they may be. Leopard completely overreacted and I really hope vbdad doesn't do the same.

Louisiana Lafayette - Tubbs was the coach
Manhattan - major upset OU majorly overachieved that season and ran out of gas.
Temple not an upset. OU was a 10 seed, Temple was a 7
Stanford not an upset. OU was an 11 seed, Stanford was a 6
Indiana not an upset. OU was a 10 seed, Indiana was 7.
Indiana State Major upset. OU kicked JR Raymond off the team before the Tournament, Hollis got injured during the game, and OU lost in OT
Wisconsin-Milwaukee - notable upset. OU was a 6 UW-Mil was an 11
San Diego State not an upset. OU was a 10 seed, San Diego State was a 7 seed.
North Dakota State notable upset. OU was a five seed, UND was a 12.

It doesn't sound like you are defender. It sounds like you want to make it look like OU has been upset in the tournament numerous times when in fact of the games you listed only 4 were upsets in the Sampson or Kruger era.

First round losses are not a bad thing. A bad things is when an incompetent jackass, such as Capel, fails to take the team to even the post season let alone the NCAA Tournament.

I don't pretend to be any kind of skilled prognosticator, but I felt going in we were in trouble against Manhattan. That team was little known outside the NE, but everyone up here knew they were good. It was admittedly a big upset based on the seeds, but I would never have put money on that game. Not that I'm a betting man, anyway, but even if I were, I'd have avoided that game -- or I'd have put money on the Jaspers.

If that was the case, you should have put money on it. I don't think Nationally people saw that coming. I certainly didn't. That was pre internet days or right in the beginning of the internet so the world was a lot different back then. You had to make an effort to find the lines.

couldnt agree with you more. I agree with Denver except I excuse Manhattan and almost Indiana State.

Manhattan - not nearly as big of an upset as haters wanted to make it. Manhattan was a good team underseeded and OU played over their heads some that year..

Indiana State - it's an upset, but the circumstances offer a bit of an explanation. Hollis was messed up.

Wisconsin-Milwaukee - an upset but that W-M team was underseeded.

Wonderful! What a track record we have in running off posters who have friendly ties to the inner workings of the program. Leopard, gone. vbdad, sabbatical.

More postings from the reactionaries! HOORAY!!

The problem becomes when these types of posters start confusing the facts with their opinions.

And that comment isn't directed at Leopard.

It's funny that people only remember that one Gary prediction. He had some others that have been pretty far off too.

And I don't say that to bash Gary. I do enjoy his info, and we squashed whatever beef we had a long time ago. My personal opinion is that sometimes Gary lets his opinions on what he is seeing at practice and the actual facts intermingle a bit. I'd prefer to know what was fact vs what is Gary's opinion.

Post more Gary. We're all thirsty for OU bball information here.
