Frank Booker Transferring

Re: Booker Transfering

This is good news. Booker was always a marginal talent for a legit team which is why he was lightly recruited and low rated by the scouts. Odomes and James aren't rated much better but maybe they can overachieve. Hopefully this means Buford has been clearly better in practice. Frank never showed anything to justify more than his unranked 3 star recruiting ranking.

Of course its April fools day so it might not be true.

This has been brewing... There is a reason he didnt practice before tournament play. Academics. Going to class was a problem.

Ill bite. Both are higher ranked than booker. James was the #1 SG in texas prior to a broken Leg.

Odomes was district player of the year vs very good folks.

Tyson Jolly or Curran Scott would be good late pick up if you ask me. Both more athletic than booker. Booker was a shooter nothing else.

This isn't a day in age when kids pay their dues.

I am really disappointed to find out that Frank is leaving OU. Though he had not yet attained the percentages from behind the arc that we had hoped for, Frank added excitement to the game any time he entered the lineup. You just always felt like he could go off at any moment and start burying one trey after another.

To those that say he wouldn't improve and had reached his ceiling as a player – well, I say you're wrong. Frank was deadly from 3-point range in high school and he showed flashes of that skill set while at OU. I believe he could have been a big contributor had he stayed and continued to work hard. We've had less talented/skilled players than Frank Booker who have contributed mightily and will forever be held in high esteem by Sooner fans.

Re: Booker Transfering

Looking at rivals Booker was an unranked 3 star, James is a 3 star ranked #139, Odomes is an unranked 3 star. The differences are negligible. Of course any player recruited by a major D1 program was a stud in high school but if you want to be a legit top 20 team they have to be super studs because that's whose playing for the other legit top 20 teams.

yeah, basketball rankings just don't get the time and effort that football rankings get, sans the top 25 or so kids. Kids 30-150 are all kind of set in stone and never touched much after.

James is likely a kid that was a 4 star, ranked #1 SG in Texas, and after an injury might be re-ranked as a high 3 star. High potential but lack of senior season on his resume would certainly hurt.

Odomes is a kid who would have started out 3, won back to back district MVP's in a very good district and been a 4 star. No one can sit here and tell me with his size, stats and potential, he isn't a 50-75 ranked kid nationally, 4 star.

Best of luck to Frank.

By my count we're now at zero 'ships to give for next season pending Buddy's decision and perhaps Cole's choice to pursue medical school.

If Cole doesn't return, but Buddy does, it would be lovely to add another post threat that is eligible next season. We have all right numbers in the post, but not much scoring punch without Tashawn.

Admon Gilder is just flat out better than James...that was the case even before the injury.

Re: Booker Transfering

I've always thought in any sport it was best to judge a recruits' prowess by his offer list. James' speaks highly of his ability.

Bingo and he's the highest rated of the 3. People can poo-poo recruiting rankings all they want but on balance they prove to be very accurate. More so in baskeball than football.

We have one to give now that Frank is gone, could be two or three depending on what Buddy and Cole decide to do.

You put too much stock in the number of stars by a player's name. While I agree that it would be nice if all of the recruits LK and his staff bring in were four and five stars, that's just not the way it works at OU. Hield and Cousins are good examples of that. You go with the best player and the best fit you can sign, with an eye always tuned to the idea that if you can bring in an occasional super star like Blake Griffin your chances reaching the ultimate goal improve.

Watch Odomes and James' video highlights and then tell me you can't see a difference in those two players and Booker? Forget the number of stars by their names. I have been a big Frank Booker fan since he signed with OU more than two years ago. But, the truth is he was recruited over, and he's smart enough to know it.

Looking at ESPN, James is a 4 star #23 Small Forward 80 overall and Odomes is a 3 Star #31 Small forward 79 overall. Compared to Booker who was a 3 star #59 Shooting Guard 70 overall

Re: Booker Transfering

Best of luck to Booker wherever he ends up. Hate to see him go he was one of my favorites on the team.
