KU vs K-State end of game

I also think that this boiled over because Self was already pissed about the lack of rebounding and hustle from his team.

I agree.

I'm not for what Greene did by any means but I also don't care what a kid did who only played 5 minutes does during the last 10 seconds of a game if the other team is just going to leave him completely open. I think its more classless to say what Self said than the actual dunk. You want to apologize for the dunk, fine. But leave it at that.

Self shouldn't have gone on the radio and called it a "dick move", even if he thought that to be the case. Apologize in your presser and then light up Greene personally or at practice.

I couldn't imagine Lon (or Stoops) saying something like that on the air.

I agree with Self.

He was clearly just doing it to pad his own stats, and make himself look better in the box score.

Luckily, the clock operator kept the clock running. But technically, the clock should have stopped with about 1.5 seconds left, and K-State would have had to run all the way back down to that baseline and inbound it.

Total dick move from a guy who apparently is already a pretty big distraction on their team

I think you're right about Greene and the fact it was against Webber who seems to always be coaching in the same state as Self. So they go back to the days when they both coached in Illinois.

So, Self never refers to Weber by name. Ever. On the radio he always says "he" or "the guy" or "that guy" but never by name. It's fairly well known here in the KC market that some animosity exists between the 2. Not sure if the animosity is related to when they recruited against each other in Illinois or if related to Weber taking over for Self when he left for KU and that was the team Self and Kruger built that went to the final game. I don't think Weber ever gave Self any credit or something like that is what I heard.

Greene has been in the doghouse all season and I'm guessing if it had been a different player or if it hadn't been against Weber/KSU then Self may not have said anything but it happened to be the "perfect storm".

Oh I think he clearly wanted to embarrass him and I think he is to the point he doesn't want Greene around anymore. I would be surprised if he plays much after last night and if returns next season.

Stoops has been pretty quick with his tongue when he's been exasperated by players. He probably wouldn't use the words "dick move" though.

FWIW, Kruger didn't build any of the '05 Illinois Final Four team.

Yeah after my post I went and looked up his stats. I was expecting he was a non factor and only played in mop up. he is actually a decent role player.

So maybe a little bit bigger of a dick mover than I originally thought

Maybe watch a game sometime so you are more informed.:facepalm

Agreed. Where was that when EJ dunked on Iowa State in a route in the same situation?

Funny you mention that...remember that was the game the ISU fan tried to fight Self. I wonder if that dunk by EJ and what happened afterwards caused Self to have the reaction last night, besides the fact it was done by a player who has been in his doghouse.

But I wouldn't be surprised if after that ISU game Self reflected and figured that's not something he will allow anymore? Just a thought.

Wasn't his last team 2001? So, any of the 4 year guys would have been his right?

His last season was the '99-00 team.

The one that went to the title game was the '04-05 team, so 5 years removed. The best players on that team were all Self recruits (Williams, Brown, Head, etc)

You are right. My bad...I was thinking Kruger left in 01 and that team was 05.

Stoops has dealt with way worse than a kid dunking at the end of a game.

Kruger did leave Self with a very talented roster and Self has always said as much. Self left Weber with a very talented roster and Weber has always taken all the credit for the '04 and '05 seasons. That is likely the rub.

Who cares...It's not like Williams didn't leave Self a team just as talented. Simien, Langford, and Miles. Props to Webber for doing more with the guys that Self left then what Self did with the guys that Williams left. He lost in the first round to Bucknell. Simien averaged 20 and 11 his senior year. And they had Giddens on that team.

Yeah but not during the game like that. I will say when Bomar made that dick move vs Oregon Stoops was pretty candid with him on the field. I've never seen him go after a QB like that before or after that happened. I bet if someone had stuck a mic in his face right after it happened he may have said much worse than calling it a "dick move".

Well, the difference is Self didn't think that highly of the talent Williams left him. He likes guys who play defense and when he first arrived at KU he said once "defense to these guys is throwing the ball in and going back upcourt". However, what Self left Weber fit into Weber's scheme because he coaches defense too. I doubt Self would have recruited Miles, or Langford. Maybe Simien since he was a local kid.

I like Self as well. From a coaching stand point, he is a smart dude. I respect him. Greene made a dumb choice but its being overblown a little. Sure make him touch the top of Phog 10 times.
