KU vs K-State end of game

You obviously missed my point, skyvue. I really wasn't "objecting" to anything or anyone. But I don't agree with those who want to make Self the villain in this incident. Self's reaction to what Greene did was his way of making a point. If the kid's feelings were hurt, maybe he should be playing somewhere else.

The post below is an example of the extent to which political correctness has permeated our society:

No, I got your point. I just used the term "object to" rather than "disagree with."

FWIW, I'm in the camp that thinks Self was right to object to Greene's late dunk but that he could have expressed himself more carefully in public. I'd be disappointed if one of our coaches used such a phrase.

But then I probably qualify as what some would consider "politically correct."

As for the post you were responding to, it's hard for me to view any post that includes "tard" as PC. Quite the opposite. (But it's interesting to note that in the hypothetical situation the poster described, he would object to Self describing his son's dunk as a "dick move" but he is willing to refer to that same scion as a "tard.")

+1

Again...I totally disagree with that statement. That team with Paul Pierce, Ostertag, Vaughn, LaFrentz, Pollard

Even the one with Gooden, Collison, Hinrich, Boschee, Simien, Langford and Miles.

Even Self's championship team would have a hard time beating those teams.

Self's team won the NC, those other teams didn't. This is my last post on this discussion between you and me but Self's recruiting has been much better and more effective than Williams ever was. Williams had good teams every 3-4 years and the other years were so-so. He never won 11 straight conf championships and he never won an NC at KU.

personal fouls and dirty plays happen all the time in games. Much worse than a player dunking a ball.

I highly doubt it

and for the record, I'm guessing self had time to cool off before the dick move comment

The radio interview I think is right as the teams are leaving the floor so it's immediately after the game is over. Maybe it happens in the hall of hte dressing room but I think it's usually on the floor.

It's a pet peeve of mine when people quit the game early.. they pass the ball to the ref before the time is up ect.. so even tho kstate had given up. They should still be between the goal and ball

Yeah, it's great to play until the final bell except when the game is over like 16 points down over, the only thing you do is risk an injury to one of your players.

The coaches were already shaking hands or about 3 steps from shaking hands when it happened.

quite ironic isn't it

You're right; "tard" is not a very politically correct way of describing Self. But I still think you may have missed my point.

Of course, Kruger would have never used "dick move" to describe something one of his players might have done. That's not Lon's way, and the first of those two words may not even be part of his vocabulary.

But Bill Self is a much more excitable, demonstrative person than Lon Kruger. And Self often does use colorful language when he's unhappy with a player or even an official. That's why he's hit with technical fouls much more frequently than Kruger.

That, however, doesn't make him bad or unfeeling. And it doesn't make him a "tard" either. If "political correctness" isn't the correct way to categorize the backlash Self received from at least a few posters here, then give me the correct metaphor and I'll consider editing my previous post.

Dumb comment by Self. He'd probably love to have it back.

He loathes Brennan Greene. I would be very surprised if that kid is still on the roster next year. This just fuels the animosity fire Self has toward him. Kid has been nothing, NOTHING, but trouble in Larryville.

for the record...pretty sure the poster that used tard was referring to greene and not self.

To me, political correctness is tiptoeing around a subject so you don't hurt somebody's feelings and avoiding the real issues.

People saying that self shouldn't have used the phrase dick move doesn't fit that I dn't think. The poeple that don't like it, probably don't like it b/c its a highly inappropriate thing to say to the media about a college kid

1st) He didn't win the big 12 the 1st year he was here and
2nd) He split the next 3 out 4 conference championships.
3rd) If Griffin didn't get a concussion, that streak would have ended.
4th) Majority of the competition hasn't been near as good as when Williams was here. No Sutton, No Sampson, No TJ Ford and Mihm, No Marcus Fizer and Tinsley.

Self is finally getting solid competition with Kruger, Huggins and Hoiberg(don't know how its going to go without him there) and the juries out on Smart but he's not doing to bad his first year.

It would have been excellent wordsmithing if he had called it a "starship enterprise move".

(1) You're right, of course; he was referring to Greene.

(2) Inappropriate? Possibly. Politically incorrect? Most assuredly.

Is it politcally incorrect? yes.

But I thought what we were talking about was that somebody claimed that people not approving of the language were not approving of it because it was politically incorrect. I don't think that is the case. I think people don't approve of it because it was a dick move:) to use that phrase.

I hate political correctedness as well....I just don't see that as a reason of why I don't agree with his usage of the phrase

I should edit my last post. I was trying (though I failed miserably) to say that anyone finding fault with Self was doing so for the sake of political correctness. If I was wrong about you, I apologize.

Been a long day.

It's funny that Self's statement got more discussion than the play did. I didn't see the game so I had to watch a video clip to see what Self was talking about It was clearly an act of poor sportsmanship, but I was expecting to see some dirty play where someone got hurt.

I've been guilty over my lifetime of saying something that I knew was wrong the second the words came out of my mouth. I can remember a couple of instances years later, and I still regret them even though nobody else remembers. I'm sure Bill regrets how he described the situation publicly.

I hope I live long enough to see the term "political correctness" fall out of usage. It has almost no genuine meaning as it's currently used.

As I have always understood it, the original usage of the term "political correctness" was to accuse someone of saying the socially acceptable thing, but not being sincere about it, of using (or espousing the use of) the language in question merely because some group or other had demanded its adoption by the general public. It's akin to an accusing a politician or other public figure of pandering and not revealing his or her true self.

I can see the usefulness of the term in that context. But for many years now, it's been more about expressing disapproval when someone objects to a statement (or an action, but it's usually about language and/or attitudes) that the person claiming political correctness doesn't want to let go of or even reconsider from the other person's point of view.

In other words, if the offending term or idea is something a person doesn't use or hold, that person generally doesn't throw out accusations of political correctness when someone else objects to it. But if it is a term one uses or the raised objection addresses an idea or opinion the person agrees with, the PC card gets played, and quickly.

I don't think you understand the term you are using..

I am not being PC by saying his statement was inappropriate because i genuinely feel that way.. PC is saying how brave and stunning Bruce Jenner looks when his face looks like leather not air brushed, which is what south park is parodying all last season.. perhaps you should watch it to understand the operation of PC

This is all besides the point.. i think self should have used less inflammatory language and give the kid the real dosage in the locker room.
