KU vs K-State end of game

I should edit my last post. I was trying (though I failed miserably) to say that anyone finding fault with Self was doing so for the sake of political correctness. If I was wrong about you, I apologize.

Been a long day.

no problem.

been a long week!

I don't think you understand the term you are using..

I am not being PC by saying his statement was inappropriate because i genuinely feel that way.. PC is saying how brave and stunning Bruce Jenner looks when his face looks like leather not air brushed, which is what south park is parodying all last season.. perhaps you should watch it to understand the operation of PC

This is all besides the point.. i think self should have used less inflammatory language and give the kid the real dosage in the locker room.

I understand very well what the term "politically correct" means. And, if someone says Bruce Jenner (in his current configuration) looks stunning, that person is not being politically correct, he/she is simply being ridiculous.

With Ms. Jenner, as with every other human soul treading God's green earth, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And thank heaven for that.

I'm not sure this has anything to do with "political correctness". In general, it's not a good idea to publicly berate one of your players - at any level. I realize it wasn't the guy's first offense, but Bill Self got a little carried away. He could have made his point publicly that he wasn't happy with Green, but handled the berating privately. He could also have made sure Green publicly apologize...lots of better ways to handle it than how he did.

In Kelvin Sampson's last year at OU, David Godbold kicked a Villanova player while he was on the ground. He didn't play for a game (or didn't start for a couple...don't remember the exact punishment) and someone from the media asked Kelvin about it. All he said was this: "David is being disciplined." I don't think many of us would have been happy if Kelvin publicly said half the things Self said the other night.

Ms. Jenner? I started to :ez-laugh:, but then I realized you might be serious.

You're right, I am serious. I have several trans friends, and I naturally use the gender terms they prefer.

I don't have any transgender friends, skyvue, at least none that I'm aware of. But I also have no ill will for anyone who is confused about their gender. I do prefer, however, to use the term "Mr." when making reference to a man.

Anyway, I realize that OUHoops is not the proper forum for this discussion, so I'll respectfully bow out. Hope we can still be friends.

Ellis has enough sense not to pull something like that. Low-class.

don't see why it is such a big deal if this was the only incident.

Either self hammers into his team that what he did is not acceptable or he is just tired of this kid. I can't imagine he would make this comment if somebody like ellis had done this.

Have no issues using ms. for a former male that actually received a sex change. but not for those that just want to identify with another gender. Kaitlyn/Bruce is still technically a male isn't he/she

Why? The kid should own up to his stupidity and take his lumps -- no need for mama or daddy to bail him out.

That's what's wrong with kids these days.

Really lame by Green, who i can't stand.. but still for an adult coach to refer to it as a dickhead move in the national media... if i were the parent of that tard, self and i would be having a conversation

Ms. Jenner is legally a woman. A court of law has recognized both her name change and her gender change. Any other details about her transition and where it stands aren't really our business (that may sound preachy -- I don't intend it to).

I'm not trying to coopt this thread (and we can stop talking about this at any time, as far as I'm concerned) but for most, the transition process isn't just about having something removed (or having something surgically created). That's just one step in a lengthy process (hormone therapy plays a much larger role) and while some do opt for the surgical procedures, many others don't for any number of reasons (often including, but not limited to, financial factors).

Think of it this way: If the trans men I know walked into your place of business, you'd never know they were trans. (You'll have to take my word for this: These guys are straight-up dudes.) I don't think any of them have had surgery to create what they weren't born with, but believe me, you'd accept them as guys immediately. And most of them have married lovely women, too -- really lovely women. And they are finally comfortable in their own skin in a way they never were before.

So are they not men if they haven't had the surgery? You'd treat them as such if you met them at your workplace or in a social setting, and you'd never give a thought to what was in their trousers. You'd simply take it as face value that they were men.

Ms. Jenner is famous and her transition was public, but she deserves the same basic respect.

As I said, I am not trying to pirate this thread, so I'll leave it there.
