March Madness and Covid-19

Continuous cycle -

1) You say something rude/abrasive
2) Another poster calls you out on it
3) You play the victim (see above quote)

You are either constantly looking for fights, or you simply don't understand how you're coming across to everybody else. You have gotten the same feedback from numerous posters, some of which are far more model citizen material than myself.

Just because there's more conservatives here and in Oklahoma doesn't mean they're always right.

The lynch mob can be wrong......:o

And I don't like being called one of the "boys"....but no one was called out.

We are all distinct individuals here. Asking for respect should not be associated with lynching for it only adds to the drama and drama obscures the truth.

once again - why don't you guys steer AWAY from your crappy little political opinions? there are families of 100,000+ people and counting who would disagree with you. keeping the initial wave hospitalizations down is far from "based on a death model". if this is beyond your capacity to understand then you should just be silent.

I didn't think anything was political about my post. If you can't understand that complete lockdown is worse for all lives then you should just...

actually the cycle is you guys make little political digs and I mind my tongue for a bit then after so many I finally say something and you act all innocent like a wrestler hiding a pipe wrench.

What political comments do you speak of? I don't think I've made any such posts in this thread.

All I'm saying is it should go both ways......I've got a right to my own opinion and others have that same right.

As long as it's civil and not mocking one another, it can be a good thing. Maybe we can all learn something...

You want respect....we all do.

My recent comments had nothing to do with being right/wrong, nor did they have anything to do with party lines. I simply said that it is possible to disagree with somebody without being rude. I don't feel that comment should be categorized as either "republican" or "democrat." I believe that to be basic knowledge accepted by all parties, even if not always implemented appropriately.

Agreed. "Getting back to work", in and of itself, is not a political comment. cool just wants to argue and fuss.

and it's another day of exposing at the ok corral. You are spot on in pointing out there was nothing political involved. In all seriousness of the 100k who passed on is a percentage would have met the same fate if they contracted the flu. Also, many of these people had burdensome health issues and they were not long for this world as some had serious cardiovascular problems and such and time was not on their side.

yup...

I haven't posted in this thread for awhile, mostly because I was disgusted with the decision to basically destroy the small business community. I would have been fine with shutting down the country for a few WEEKS had they not allowed companies like Walmart, Target and Home Depot to turn every day into Black Friday while allowing the virus to spread more rapidly.

At this point, most of us have learned enough to be cautious without further destroying what is left of the economy.

Exactly....I'm with ya brother 100%.

Outside of the sensationalizing crap that we are constantly deluged with by the MM, by and large, a growing segment of people understand this disease for what it is.... a contagious virus that primarily preys on the elderly and those with specific underlying conditions. In hindsight, I believe we went a little overboard with the guidelines and length of shutdown....especially when a majority of the issues were in one region of the country. But I'm not going to be too critical of the "overreaction" because we didn't know much at the outset and simply had to learn more as we went along.

Most people (to one degree or another) and businesses that are starting to and have opened up are taking appropriate precautions....I know my employer has. I'm not saying everyone is being smart when in public, but what I am seeing (anecdotally) is that a majority of people are practicing some sense of personal safety and respecting the space of others.

Too many people have tried to infuse "wishful thinking" during the pandemic. People who drink do not drive drunk. Wishful thinking. People who are symptomatic will stay home. Again, wishful thinking. There is a blueprint for those who are part of the at risk group and it is called sheltering at all costs. For those who chose not to they chose to roll the dice. Of course there are those anomalies, but minimization of risk should have been the top priority for these people and not the maximization of it.

I think there will be some interesting news this week or next in regards to good therapeutic evidence for a medication to treat COVID.

I have no inside information, but if you follow the news/twitter of researchers in this field as closely as I have, you won't be surprised by the results of this anticipated publication.

Really hoping to hear something this week, but it's apparently in the process of peer review/publication, so it could take longer.

I don’t remember saying it was garbage but I did say that you can’t really extrapolate that tiny sample to the whole population and I stand by that, same with Iceland. I think the CDC estimate is high on asymptomatic cases and low on mortality rate based on New York, the numbers don’t really make sense. Some experts are already pushing back on the CDC’s estimate, they say even their worst-case estimate is overly optimistic. They already did an antibody survey in New York and found less than 20% positive. These numbers are all preliminary and we won’t know for sure until months after this is all over. Not really sure why you’re spiking the football.

By the way, the CDC has been lumping direct tests for the virus with antibody testing when reporting the numbers which makes that number worthless. They say they’re going to stop the practice so we will see.

A 20% prevalence in NY would mean they have millions infected, and place the infection fatality rate (IFR) under 1%. In April, Cuomo said it was around .5% or so I think if I remember his press conference correctly.

The state of Oklahoma has conducted antibody tests every week for the past month and a half and have consistently gotten 4% prevalence. That would mean that 150,000 Oklahomans have been infected at some point. That would put the fatality rate in Oklahoma at around .5% and in agreement (or at least same order of magnitude) with NY numbers.

There are literally hundreds of thousands of cases that have gone undocumented due to mild symptoms or asymptomatic and patients never seeking care.

Soccer City is starting up next week here in OKC. Not sure how I feel about that.

And the latest report indicates 156 people are currently being hospitalized, which is the lowest level seen in many weeks (lets get it under a 100).

They have their hands busy at the moment making molotov cocktails! You know.

don't even get me started there. all these people complaining about "it must be peaceful" ... you don't get any more peaceful than an NFL QB taking a knee on national TV. did they listen? nope. he was ridiculed and branded a traitor. so no complaining when it escalates.

If Kap had done that on his OWN time, few would have complained. Well, had he done it the right way. The right way isn't wearing socks that show cops as actual pigs.

Put another way, there are plenty of pro athletes taking part in these current protests. I've seen VERY LITTLE negative said about them. Why? Because they are doing it on their own time, and they aren't being disrespectful or violent/destructive.

That is the difference.
