We are going to get to 150,000 dead soon and Trump gave a speech on shower heads today.

141,118 will arrive more quickly. Arbitrary numbers, which you feel are the most important to talk about, are not a solution to the problem.

Neither are shower heads....

I wonder if during WW2, FDR ever gave a speech on curtain rods or toilet paper.

Did the governor of New York state that restaurants in his state were not following proper safety guidelines? Convince us on how none of those restaurateurs are democrat. Explain how democrats are not contributing to the problem. Explain what words, which are spoken, are the magic bullet to an unruly problem which affects us all.

Is that really what you are turning to? That, instead of blaming the President of the United States, who is in charge of the whole thing, our response to the virus, etc.... that you want to blame restaurant owners who are democrats.

I mean, you guys are willing to go to great (and infinite) lengths to not criticize this man.... Why? I don't think i've ever seen you guys attack Trump. Do you think he is right 100% of the time?

I saw this meme going around that was pretty funny.....

It says:

"Don't tell anti-maskers that wearing a mask stops Covid-19......... Instead, tell them it stops facial recognition software used by the 5G Federal Government Skynet from tracking them..... Stupid problems require stupid solutions"

The hilarious part about that..... I think it would work.

People do not have to go to any length to blame those responsible for we either have a personal choice, which affects others, or we don't A house without pillars is not a house so you could spare us your boogeyman bull**** for a change. We are all in this together and we are all to blame, if you cannot fathom what "all" means then perhaps you should curtail the dainty handed behavior, Bambi. Have a nice day Princess.

So we either have a personal choice or we don't? That is so profound! I'm sure this sounded super-smart in your brain.

Also, the weird personal attacks are a nice touch..

By the way, my house doesn't have pillars lol

I don’t mind criticizing trump with I believe it is warranted.
I’ve said I thought trump could have stressed the importance of masks earlier and encouraged people to wear them

But that still falls back on the individual

He has taken the route of letting governors govern their people. I can’t fault that.
Therefore, I put more criticism in governors than the potus

I don’t know enough of what goes on behind the scenes to make an informed opinion on what could have been done better.
I know that some criticism To trump is warranted but a lot that is brought up is very hindsight that would have gone against what fauci and other experts were saying.

Letting the governors fend for themselves was an incredible failure of leadership.

I partly agree with that... I just think the GOP political game on this was the biggest problem. They were pretty much only thinking about the economy during an election year instead of public health and safety.

Kevin Stitt telling people to go out... Devin Nunes, same thing... Donald Trump was slow to react in a meaningful way, played politics, thought it was another communist attempt to oust him, kept on with his rallies and downplaying the virus. Fox News telling people to behave like normal, fly on planes, etc. Part of that is stupidity, but I think more of it was trying to protect the economy. They gambled, and lost. Like any gamble, it could have won. The virus could have magically disappeared in April like Trump said, and economic damage would have been limited. That was the goal, to protect the economy. But the dealer laid down blackjack, and now 140,000 people are dead and we are looking at a recession.

I think most of the states are guilty of this as well... but Trump was really guiding the states. He said that much. He said he had absolute authority, and that they had to re-open on his timeline.

If you want to vote out all the governors, along with Trump, for their failed response on this, I am fine with that. If we have 50 new governors in a few years, fine, I don't care. There are only 11 elections for governors in 2020.

A short-term economic win was their initial goal.... from both the Trump administration and in state capitols. I don't know how it could be viewed any other way.

When you live in a country like ours, I think we can all acknowledge that absolutely nothing is more important than commerce. Look what happened when it was disrupted for 45 days, it was on its knees. The fed is pumping billions of dollars into the economy (about $150 billion so far) trying to keep it propped up. They have a worst-case scenario of pumping $2.3 trillion of public money into the economy to prevent a crash. That's not free market capitalism, because it doesn't exist. Every time we have a market failure (for whatever reason), we have to step in with public money to prop it back up.

I think the priority was pretty clear...

Agreed, that's exactly what it was, a huge gamble that didn't pay off.

Again though, right now, the numbers show the republican led states have fared far better than democratic led states.

We will see if that trend continues or flips. Even if you take out NY and NJ, the republicans have fared better

honestly, I think you are right. But I also think it was the biggest problem for the democrats too.

I think at the end of the day they had the same goal... Protect the economy. That was the gamble. Whether you were GOP or Democrat, that was the goal. They were largely on the same page in terms of the action they took. The rhetoric is different, but the action was similar. Trump was meeting with and guiding the governors, and for the most part they all did similar things. They tried to re-open in general lockstep, with few differences here and there.

They shut down in similar fashion, and re-opened in similar fashion. Again, with little differences here and there.

You don't believe him then you believe him.. Got it. The federal government does not have the resources nor the capacity to enforce its laws and this is quite obvious. All you have to do is look at sanctuary cities or states which legalized marijuana on a local level. The federal government is hamstrung on what laws it can enforce and are at the mercy of the individual states. Most laws it attempts to enforce ends up in the courts, which is a time consuming approach, thus immediate action is a forgone conclusion.
