what does Biden have to do with this? can't you just talk about this subject right now? I dont like Biden and I dont support Biden. Not sure how that came up.

Tom Brady? what does HE have to do with this?

You support a lying, cheating sack of dung and I called you on it. you grow a pair and own up to it or get bent. that's pretty much the long and short of it.

Biden, Tom Brady, etc are just more red herrings.

Because you do not call Biden a liar is why for you pick and choose selectively of when it qualifies as a lie or not. It is called a double standard. No chit!

Because exaggerating something does not qualify as a lie is why. The president does this and each and every time people like you state he just lied. It gets old. Obvious.

I do not support politicians but what I do is illustrate at what panty waists people choose to be. I did not vote for him and will not vote for him so enough of telling me about myself.

I'm no legal scholar, but it could be argued that purposefully disseminating false or misleading info about a pandemic is akin to shouting "Fire!" in a crowded movie theatre.

Good point. Falsely spreading panic is not protected speech and potentially liable for the person uttering it. Cool or other lawyers on this board could probably explain in greater detail, but this quote has been butchered and misused as much as any quote.

To summarize, Oliver Wendall Holmes said "falsely shouting fire in a theatre and causing a panic" is not protected speech by the First Amendment, as it is dangerous and false. What could be protected is speech that is dangerous but also true.

So when people say "yelling fire in a crowded theatre is wrong", the have misapplied the quote. It is only wrong and not protected if it is false

Nuke the thread. Its pointless for the board long term. Altho im like an addict and cant get enough ha

I don't give two craps if he "lies" as you put it. I care about his policies and beliefs. I care that he has people working, and jobs returning to the States. I care that he has (had) the market performing well. I care that he isn't gutting our military, coming for our guns, or making it legal to kill babies.

THAT is the stuff I care about. Not whether he says we're not going to allow any European goods into the country when we actually are. That has zero impact on me. Give me the jerk that gets results over the nice guy that either does nothing or moves politically in a manner not in line with my beliefs.

To add a bit even more precision. It likely would be protected, even if false, if the speaker reasonably believed it to be true, right?

Look up the definition of a lie. This is exactly what a lie is.

  • an assertion of something known or believed by the speaker or writer to be untrue with intent to deceive.
  • an untrue or inaccurate statement that may or may not be believed true by the speaker or writer
  • something that misleads or deceives

However, I will agree that all politicians lie or misuse the truth to their advantage. Saying one party or political belief has a leg up on honesty or tells more lies, well, is a lie.

Double standards. That's all.

so you just pick Biden out of the air and accuse me of a double standard because I havent said much about him? what kind of ignorant argument is that?

OK, I noticed you havent admonished OJ in your ignorant diatribe so I guess you support murderers. oh wait ... you didnt say anything bad about Jeffrey Dahmer so I guess you support cannibalism? Oh oh ... I know ... I didnt see you at the anti-cancer protest so I guess you're for cancer huh?

ignorance. Trump is the PRESIDENT. He's supposed to act properly. Biden isn't anything other than a candidate. grow up.

Wow, that is a good point to think about. I am not sure, but you could be right.

Of course, then people will start talking 25th amendment. Lol.

This thread has destroyed my productivity. But I can't help from getting back on to see if you guys now see things my way. :)

If I said I was so hungry "I could eat a horse" and do not eat a horse does that make me a liar?

The Duke AD is also the Chairman of the Selection Committee

I am not sure this will matter, as I think everyone is on board on this one.

After the incident with Hoiberg last night, and then seeing two players on one team get it and how that spread among teammates, those were the final nails in the coffin to having the tourney.

I just hope there is a way to play it if this gets under control, but it is doubtful.
