Story on the Dallas County shelter-in-place order. All non-essential businesses ordered to stop operating. No church services, weddings, or funerals. Wow.

Wouldn't our crisis (circus) be over quicker if the entire country did this at the same time......instead of waiting until the cases skyrocket in your own locale?

I know it would take someone with leadership qualities but.....:o

Yeah it's like playing Whack-a-mole

You have instances where Cuomo and De Blasio are at odds yet they represent the same party. It's obviously easier said than done.

Maybe this is where the "war president" should admit his mistakes and "man up". Quit passing the buck. Local leaders are accepting the responsibilities of making hard and necessary decisions. And accepting complaints from some locals.

But unless proven otherwise, I see no sense in the "whack-a-mole" scenario.

But I've been wrong before......:o

I don't think for a minute that Cuomo or Newsome want to be told what to do by a member of the other party just as you don't want to be told what to do within your family by your neighbor and I'm sure your neighbors mirror the feeling. There has always been a distinction between federal and state governments and it's been that way from the start of it all. You can gift wrap it all you want.

I'd rather people blame themselves instead of others. One is the easy way out.

New York has been the epicenter, so to speak, and the state leaders have had at their finger tips the opportunities to enact certain laws from the start. I do not think the federal level got in the way.

I do not think we have different levels of government exist solely so one one could bail out the other.

But we do have an explanation: the adaptive immune system.

well, the way Lisa Stevens explained it to me was this is an RNA vice a DNA virus. Thus it's merely a bit off a single strand vice a double strand with a more complex structure. This makes it incredibly prone to mutation as compared to DNA viruses. Very subtle changes in structure occur as it bops around and the adaptive system antibody release doesn't match. I think it's like the enymes that activate or deactivate different chromosome genomes. They physically require fitting into a certain spot a certain way in the DNA to stop or start something but if its' shape changes too much then they become less effective. Like the NOTCH2 enzymes in chromosome 1 that are inherently unstable due to shape and are subject abnormalities that cause some autism and mental "issues". If you had S (one of the 2 known strains right now) then you can catch L again ... but you also might catch S again in a late form.

That's how I understand it. you're welcome to school me if you like.

Go to the 10 minute mark of the vid and see how the mainstream media was describing the virus as being less problematic than the flu. These articles were written after the administration banned travel from China. Look at the name they chose to label the virus. And look how one article complained how "civil liberties" would be violated. You'd think convenience is the end all for some. Sad.

Business Insider, USA Today, Washington Post and NY Times are some of the articles displayed.

Video host is a democrat who looks at things outside of the "talking points" vignette (you like how I threw vignette in there?).

In 2 months there won’t me much to reopen

It is sad, but at the same time we are finding out who we can really depend on in a time of need plus certain relationships are being cemented and formented that will last for years to come (hopefully).

It will be forgotten in a year or so. Convenience & price will will trump morality.

Perhaps so. I believe everything good in the world comes from things which are genuine. I don't think those who are genuine will forget. Others may, but from my perspective, who cares and good riddance.

I wish it were that way. In the end the best value & product win out regardless of virtue.

Interesting video. And after watching multiple interviews with Dr. Fauci, he seems to think the coordinated response from our country has been "impressive". The three most important things (in his opinion) that we have done:
  • closed off travel from China at the end of January (was heavily criticized for this at the time).
  • when the infection burden shifted from China to Europe, shut off off travel from Europe.
  • containment and mitigation

As a side note and after Dr. Fauci's comments, apparently state governments don't realize the power they have in procurement of beds and medical devices. Do these states even realize that they resources and it's up to them to make decisions about implementation? "Certificate of Need" laws in a majority of states have a construct of regulatory processes that determine number of ICU beds, hospital expansions, medical equipment supply, etc. But then Congress has authority to determine medicare-funded residency slots. What this is telling me is that this is a very dis-jointed and convoluted way of attempting to address a pandemic....it is certainly showing the gaps in our system. The Federal Gov't can't just wave a wand and more beds, respirators, etc. appear. Regulation and policy are out-dated to a degree. Maybe the response (looking back ) will help us further clarify these holes and resolve what is getting through the cracks.

And before some of you get defensive (you know who you are) and want to blitzkreig me.....take it up with Dr. Fauci. Everybody stay safe.

1. The point of having travel bans is to keep the virus out of the country. That obviously failed. Them bragging about it is just weird.

It's like, "Hey check out that barn door! I totally closed it! Look how nicely it's closed, I got it shut completely. Yessir, I did an amazing job!'
"Um, I saw your cows running down the road in the next county..."
"Yeah but look at that barn door, wow!"
The fact that they are spiking the football about that is just weird as the virus rages out of control here in America.

2. The federal government CAN wave a magic wand and make supplies appear in a national emergency. It's called the Defense Production Act. This law was passed for exactly this kind of situation. I can't think of a more apt scenario for the use of this law, other than a world war. They can invoke this act, and direct manufacturers to make the supplies we need, and then direct those supplies to the places where they are needed the most. But he won't do it and he won't say why! What is happening now is that there is such a shortage of supplies that states are actually bidding against each other for them! That means that if Pennsylvania outbids New York for masks, or test, or PPE, then Pennsylvania gets them, even though New York is where they are needed the most, it's insane! This is why we need a uniform, federal response. You can't leave this up to the states. The federal government should be acquiring these supplies and getting them to the places where they are needed the most. What we have now, is a very dangerous game of whack-a-mole.

That's a weird take.

I'd look at it more this way. The barn door was left open and 1 or 2 animals got out. We shut the door, locking the other 10 animals inside. Sure, we have to go get those 2 animals that got out, but chasing down 2 is much easier than chasing down 12.

Unfortunately this isn't always true. Plenty of small businesses that offer great products at good prices, with fantastic service, but they don't have the cash reserves to survive something like this.

I know Trump and them have mentioned small business help in their plans, but I'm not sure they can do enough, targeted to the right people enough, to help these businesses survive a multi-month shut-down.
