Re: >>>>>Oklahoma [14-4, 4-3] vs. Kansas [16-3, 6-1] Thread<<<<<

That's what it sounded like. I couldn't see the point.

Fans on Twitter are saying they were chanting "Do it again!" as in, miss another free throw. That's plausible as I could see how that could sound like "USA." Hopefully that's the case and, if so, I'm happy to be wrong. It could be that people are trying to cover their tracks now but, as I said, I'm not positive that's what they were chanting and "Do it again" is plausible enough to me to give them the benefit of the doubt.

Is it because he was born and raised in Nigeria? I'm with you -- I don't get it.

Right. That's the idea but, as I said above, some fans are vehemently and plausibly denying that's what they chanted.

A great OU-Kansas game. Thought Trae did a great job of letting the game come to him. Kansas really loaded up on him. Graham is a very good defender and on top of that they were doubling him most of the time. Had he fought it we would have lost. Now I see him gone next year again.

Our ball and player movement was on and off, particularly good early in the game when we went out to a 6-3 lead. You knew right away this was going to be a different game.

Defense could have been better but Kansas has some great athletes and they are going to get their points. Internal defense still an issue. Good to see Polla out there. I was surprised how well he competed. Six rebounds in 4 minutes of play!! Needs to learn to use his body better on rebounding and when he has the ball under the hoop, but what a hulk. Also hope he develops stronger hands. Loses too many rebounds which a number of our guys do.

Odomes hit 7 free shots in a row. Must of been a career if not a lifetime high for him. He must have freaked out on #8. He played a great game. He and others kept Graham from destroying us as he usually does. Think Graham played a big price holding Trae down.

Doo only 8 minutes. Anyone know what that was about. Kudoos to Manek. He is becoming one of my favorites. Still gets abused sometimes on D but I think he will be a very good Sooner.

I actually heard “you got paid” as a reference to Kansas players being paid during recruitment. I could be wrong, but I heard what I wanted to hear, I suppose.

Well, "You got paid" sounds a lot closer to "USA" than the Steely Dan classic, "Do it again". Considering the number of players we've had from different countries through the years, "USA" chants make no sense. Regardless, I'm glad the student section worked hard to possibly get in the head of an opponent.

Re: >>>>>Oklahoma [14-4, 4-3] vs. Kansas [16-3, 6-1] Thread<<<<<

I was in the student section and heard neither "USA" nor "You got paid". All I heard was much more mundane insults.

I guess I'm a little lost on what the supposed faux outrage would be about? If Polla was shooting FTs and the opposing crowd was chanting USA, would we be upset?

I guess I didn't know that chanting USA made you a racist.

Chanting "you got paid" sounds much more plausible....since we are talking about KU in this case.:D

yeah, I didnt understand the "USA" comment either. How is that a slam? You got paid is decent. I'd just yell insults about his momma.

They were chanting "do that again" after a missed free throw for the next free throw. Been doing it all season.

Exactly. Even though I can't stand the Dukies, I do credit their student section with some fantastic and creative indignities they hurl. I wish we had a little more of that in our student section.

It's not often you can say Self was outcoached in conference play, but he was tonight. Like you said, every player hung in there after some adversity.

I was calling for Hack a Doke the past couple days, so happy to see Lon do it. That's his NBA background right there. But KU fans who think Self was stupid to leave him in don't understand why he did it. Obviously it cost them tonight, but he was trying to show confidence in a guy who is one of their best players and who will be on the court at crunch time for every game they play this season. Plus, having a two-game lead coming into tonight gave him so room to work with. Regardless, the decision by Lon absolutely changed the game in our favor.

show confidence? he intentionally gave up the boards to have transition defense ready after the misses. try again WS.

Great win. It is never easy beating Kansas when they get a lead on you in the second half. Going to be fun wearing OU clothes at work tomorrow. Had a lot of KU friends that were shocked that Self was out coached there at the end. :lon

If you've lightened up on hating KU, just read some of the Beaker comments on Facebook below the 247 Network's OU news feed on the game. It reminded me of why I hate their fan base more than OSU's and Texas'.

Whatever you say. He didn't have rebounders there because they were ahead and the other four players on the court for them were guards. Say what you want about Self, the guy is as honest with the media as any coach you'll ever see. So I'll take his word for it rather than yours.

Can confirm. I sit near the student section for several home games, and they chant "do that again" after every missed free throw by an opponent.

It's funny, I was seeing a whole lot of "Lon really outcoached Self last night" here and on Twitter. What's funny is that I remember just a couple of days ago people on this very board telling everyone how bad a late-game coach Kruger is.

I, for one, am glad he improved so much over the weekend.

Both statements can be true.. hope this last game becomes the norm instead

It was a good win.....one we really needed. But I don't think our problems have been solved.

We were very fortunate to win against Kansas. With four minutes left, KU had a 78-74 lead. I looked back at the game and realized that KU scored exactly 2 points in the last 4 minutes......
Azubuike left a possible 8 points at the free throw line (with an assist from Self) and Mykhaluk missed a wide open 3 (He was 6-13 last night). Graham had a bad shooting night (4-19).
OU scored 11 points in the last four minutes. Odomes was 3-4 from the free throw line and Trae was 2-2. And was still behind until James hit his three and then Brady hit his.
Brady and Trae had very good games. And their percentages show it....

I guess what I'm saying is Kansas didn't play near their best game and they almost beat us anyway.

For the most part, we played fair defense. Every so often, we would lose one of their shooters and they would make a 3 from the corner. But what hurt us most was their centers on those pick and rolls at the free throw line extended. Both of our bigs have trouble with that play....and don't seem to get any better.

We aren't perfect, but the better team won that game.
