OU Coaches - Conference Record 1st Five Seasons

No I don't.

You mentioned you don't think JC can recruit BG every year or BG-like players every year. So why mention it if that's not what you meant.

I believe JC can win just fine with "good" players like Newell, Cam and Neal as long as he has posts and some experience (of course, if he stays, those three would be his experience)...

I'll say it again, there have been situations in 3 of JC's 5 years that have led to his record in those years. Some of it was mostly his fault, some was not. Now, I've been a fan of OU BB as long as many of the posters on this board (longer than a BUNCH) and the record we've had the past two years is UNACCEPTABLE. I just lean towards seeing if JC ran into the "perfect storm" or if, with most everything equal, he can coach. He showed me he could coach his first three years. The naysayers think he failed his first year and only won the next two because of BG. I disagree, but that doesn't mean I'm stupid as the naysayers want to say. Just means I have a differing opinion. The naysayers HATE that. Instead, they want to bombard the OU hoops boards with negativity about the AD, current players and the coach...

I guess Capel is so unlucky.

Man, I dunno. I'd say the chances of 2 of your last 3 star recruits turning out to be head-cases (I actually give Tiny a pass, as he appeared to get his act in order) and the other having some sort of financial scandal hanging over his head is pretty bad luck...

Nick, just don't argue with these guys. I'm starting to think it's the assistant coaches or Capel himself. Some of this is just downright laughable retardation.

That isn't a very reasonable interpretation, IMO.

Everybody knew that those three all had issues. That is why the top programs weren't recruiting those guys like most top recruits get recruited. But all three had known issues before coming to OU. Nothing unlucky about it. Capel thought he could change them, or thought that having that much talent on the roster would trump the bad stuff. He was wrong.

You better go look at their offers again. They all three had some pretty stout offers...

Oh, and nice of you to critique my interpretation...

TMG is vastly overrated. He's a 5-9 2 guard. He's basically Keiton Page except Page is a good kid and has no big ego. Keith Gallon could have been real good in a couple years. He still needed a couple years to grow, but we couldn't keep him because of NCAA stuff. Warren was injured, I think he would have been better off coming back but he was a head case.

It doesn't really matter in the context of the overall argument, but that may be the most ridiculous comparison ever made.

I'm glad you're a part of this board. Because it means the time you spend on here abusing us idiots is time not spent brow-beating your friends and family with your bitter attitude.

"Keep the gun pointed at me honey bunny. Be cool baby you're doing great. Vincent shut the f*** up!"

Maybe not fair, but dang funny...

TMG is TWICE the on court player as KP...as for the rest you are SPOT ON...

Thanks for the kind words.

Really?

Willie Warren had played at how many different HS's? Pretty sure he had issues with the big time basketball school out east (blanking on the name), and used the "missing home" excuse to transfer back to Texas. He was called a ball hog, and people weren't sure he could function as a pg that distributed the ball. He also had the fight with Rotnei Clarke. And I think I remember grade issues, but I'm less sure on that one.

Tiny Gallon was pegged as lazy from day 1. He was described as a soft big man that would rather stand outside and shoot threes, then stay inside and pound/rebound. I remember reading about maturity issues here as well.

TMG's issues weren't discussed as much, but there were talks about a) his height, and b) the ball hog, shoot-first point guard mentality. I think the issues with TMG were there, and probably obvious to those that knew him well, but they weren't as published as WW/Tiny.

I'm not disputing most of what you said, but what I will say is...THE DESCRIPTIONS ABOVE DESCRIBE ABOUT 60% OF ALL HIGHLY RECRUITED HS PLAYERS...

The only BCS Conference schools that recruited Tiny were OU, Cal, and Miss. St. that alone should have thrown up red flags considering how highly ranked he was and none of the top programs offered him. Capel should have stayed the hell away from him.

TMG had an offer from Texas and Baylor but none of the top tier programs offered him because I think they saw the problems that Capel didn't see. Just like Tiny that should have thrown up red flags and he should have stayed the hell away from him as well. Unfortunately he didn't and now this program has been setback for the foreseeable future because of his failures in the character evaluation dep't.

TMG offers: OU, Memphis, Baylor, OSU, Texas, A&M
Tiny offers: OU, Arizone, Ark, Cal, G-town, Ole Miss, Miss St, Tenn, A&M, UNLV, USC

Rivals must do a real sh***y job because that's where I go the info from.:ez-laugh:

Heck, none of us know which one is right. I just think it's a stretch to say those guys were OBVIOUSLY that bad and that JC shoulda known. Not saying you are completely off base on that assessment, but I think it's fair to say OU coaches and programs below the top 10 programs have taken LOTS of "chances" on kids without this kind of "luck".
