The Oklahoma men's basketball team will open the 2011 76 Classic by playing Washington State on Thursday, Nov. 24 (Thanksgiving Day). The bracket for the eight-team tournament was announced this afternoon by ESPN Regional Television.

The OU-Washington State matchup will start at 10:30 p.m. CT and be televised by ESPN2. The Cougars, who went 22-13 last year and finished in sixth place in the Pac-10 after recording a 9-9 league record, advanced to the NIT semifinals in March. WSU returns three starters but lost two-time first-team All-Pac-10 selection Klay Thompson. Thompson averaged a league-high 21.6 points per game last year and was picked in the first round of the NBA Draft (No. 11 overall) by Golden State.

The winner of the OU-Washington State game will play the winner of the New Mexico-Santa Clara first-round matchup on Friday, Nov. 25 at 11 p.m. CT on ESPN2. The first-round losers will meet Nov. 25 at 8:30 p.m. CT on ESPNU. New Mexico finished 22-13 last year while Santa Clara posted a 24-14 record.

How many games will we play in the tourney?

I will not be there.... but, I will probably watch.

I'd love to be there, but not sure yet.

I will be there.

Thinking about going as well.

Wazzu and possibly UNM back to back? Two really tough games. New Mexico is going to be nice this year if Williams can step in for Gary. Very deep, talented team...look for them to be a 4-5 seed in the dance. Thank you Klay Thompson for going pro, he would have lit us up. Best player in the country no one talked about last year because he played for a marginal team on the west coast.

No doubt. My satellite has a west coast sports channel, and I use to catch alot of their games late at night when I was working the late night shift. That guy could really play!!! He would have been a hard match up for us this upcoming season.

Is it just me or did we not get a very good draw in this thing? We are on the opposite side of the bracket from Riverside and St. Louis, so if we lose in the 1st round we still get either UNM or Santa Clara.

We're definitely on the tough side of the bracket...looks as almost it was set up as Villanova, New Mexico, Wazzu and Boston College as the "higher" seeds and everyone else was matched up with one of them. Santa Clara isn't that good.

New Mexico sucks. When Steve Alford's name came up for the OU and Missouri job he got ripped on here.

The Lobos will be tough this year, trust me. They just won't be Final 4 caliber like some of their fans have demanded since the early 1980's.
