I know a lot of you don't care about rankings or poo-poo any mention of rankings, but I don't They're important for recognition and for exposure and for getting your name out there in advance of post-season play.

Should be a good week to move up the rankings with a 20 point win and teams ahead of us losing:

West Virginia
Michigan
Maryland
Michigan State
Arkansas
Miami
Ohio State
North Carolina

Doubt we'll jump 7 spots to 15, but we'll definitely jump into the top 20 again.

The people who don't care about rankings during this part of the year are misguided.

Rankings:

- get your name mentioned on ESPN, Fox etc...during all the score updates
- gets your highlights on Sportscenter and on the main page of the ESPN scoreboard
- gets the attention of your "casual fanbase"
- are exciting for both players and fans alike
- helps with recruiting

They matter.

They definitely matter. Most of our games are on ESPN,2,or U because of the preseason ranking as well.

Recruiting. Crowds. And those two go hand in hand.

Drives me nuts when people say they don't matter. They lead to more success in other areas.

It's always good to be liked for it helps buttress one's self esteem and being ranked means you are liked.

Plus when you lose to a ranked team on the road it is no big deal. When you beat a ranked team on the road it is huge and when you bet them at home it is a good thing.

Very silly to say rankings don't matter.

8 of the 9 teams directly in front of us in the AP poll lost at least once this week. We should be right around 15 tomorrow.

most of our games on the those networks because the new big 12 tv contract was awesome for basketball ..

Imagine what we would be if we hadn't blown it against Creighton...

But in all honesty, I know rankings don't matter to a lot of us that follow college basketball closely, but the higer you're ranked, the more people will want to come to your games. Fair or not, that's just the way it is. I really think if this team were to get ranked in the Top 10 (maybe top 15) and then really publicized that ranking, the LNC would see significantly better crowds.

Can someone tell me how in the world are we behind Butler in the AP? I could be wrong but I thought we beat them, by 13? --sarcasm

#16 ... AP
#15 ... USA Today/ESPN
#39 ... RPI

Check out who is #1 in the RPI. It ain't Kentucky. (And yes, it is early.)

RPI is definitely skewed right now because of SOS. UCLA will undoubtedly be in the top 50 of the RPI by the end of conference season, but they are 130ish. SOS plays such a huge role in RPI that teams playing major conference opponents (like Gardner Webb) tend to get a leg up this early.
