With nothing better to do i went over to the inbreds house and noticed a thread asking how many times they have been a #1 seed.

Was surprised to see that it was zero:eddie187_jpg_xs:

How many times have we? I want to say twice but cant remember....

1985
1988
1989
1990
2003

So, 5 times.

We were a 2 seed at least 4 other times:

1984
2000
2002
2009

I'm not sure if we've ever been a 3 seed, but a 4 seed multiple times:
1987
1992
1995
2001
2005

We were the best program in college basketball from 1988 - 1990, yet had zero NC's to show for it. That's too bad...

Thanks. As I was typing that, I was starting to question myself if we weren't a 3 in 2000...

That was the year we lost to Purdue and 45 year old Brian Cardinal in the second round in Tucson (unfortunately a game I attended). I wouldn't be surprised if our 5 #1 seeds put us in the top 5 or 6 in the country. UNC leads with 13, Duke has 11, Kentucky has 10, and Kansas has 9. I don't think many other schools have more than 5.

The worst part about it is, we don't have the Final 4's to show for all the 1 seeds. We have one from 88, but 2 losses in the elite 8 (84,03), a loss in the sweet 16 (89) and a 2nd round loss (90) were the results of the other 4 times we were a 1 seed.

I'm sure if you look at KU's 1 seeds, they have a higher percentage of final 4 appearances (when given the 1 seed), although they didn't make the final 4 a number of years under Williams when they were a 1 seed.

1 more point about your comment...that 2000 regional we were in was setup perfectly for us to make the sweet 16 if we could have beaten Purdue. Foul trouble killed us in that game...but we still should have won and we could have (would have) beaten Wisconsin.

Thanks B O B, i'm kinda embarrassed that i couldnt remember and have been a follower since Alvin Adams.

wow good info. never would have believed it but come to think of it it does feel like Syracuse is a 2 or 3 every year.

The 3-seeds were killers. Lost to Purdue in 2000 and Utah in 2005. The one that haunts me to this day is the 2000 loss. The West regional completely fell apart after that game. It ended up being 6-seeded Purdue and 8-seeded Wisconsin in the Elite 8.

I've blocked most of the Purdue game from memory, but I still remember that very questionable foul on the 3-point attempt late in the game. Seems to me we were tied at the time.....

That killed me also, because the Elite 8 for that regional was in Albuquerque. Not only would that have been an easy drive for most OU fans (less than 570 miles from the OKC area to Albuquerque), we would have been the sentimental favorite here because of Eduardo Najera.

That year haunts me as well, that region fell completely apart.

Yeah... 1-seeds are kind of pointless if you don't reach the Final Four, right?

I'll take OSU's runs to the Final Four as a 4-seed (1995) and 2-seed (2004) over 6 other times where we were 1-seeds and didn't make it to the Final Four.

Just sayin'

Was that when Purdue had that Brian Cardinal dude, who looked like he was 45 years old?

What years are the 6 years in which osu was a 1 seed? Refresh my memory...

I need my memory refreshed as well...

And while it sucks not making it to a FF as a #1 seed, I do have some pretty great memories from those seasons.

Exactly. Considering we either won the Big 8 regular season or tournament or both in 4 of those years and the Big 12 tournament in the other year I'd say the season was still a success. And, filled with a lot of great memories.
