Softball

It is interesting that Alabama has such a softball following. In the only year that I can find attendance, 2013, they had about 2900 fans per game. Next best was Arizona with 2200. OU was ninth with about 1100. They have a lot more fans at games than most schools. I wonder how much of it is weather.

Bama also gets about 12-13 K attendance in women's gymnastics.

They have a really nice softball facility and a family atmosphere is why they draw so well.

I think OU would draw big if the Softball stadium was expanded.

The camera didn't show Chamberlain's catch. It just showed the line drive, and she had hit one the day before that almost left the park before Nicole jumped up and got it. Good hitter. Looking only from the side view of the plate that the camera provided, it did seem that she was using three pitches effectively: a change-up, rise, and sinker. There were only two hitters that got enough of the bat to do anything with it. The rest were simply foul tips or misses. Some were timing misses. A lot swung over or under the ball. Good mix.

Patty was on the ref today. Some of the highlights of the conversation with the host (I think it was James Hale)-

Patty called Lauren the best hitter OU has ever had (Seems like there has been debate about this, if Patty says it, I believe her)

Said the team doesn't pay attention to records and such, said none of them even knew Paige had a perfect game until after it was over.

Patty talked about how nasty Shelby Pendley is on the mound. Compared her to a right handed Michelle G.

Patty said she has a big problem to deal with. Deciding who to play. Says that there are so many capable players, she has to make tough decisions on who to start.

Mentioned that Kelsey Stevens didn't have a good tournament, but said she will get there. They want to keep pitching her as the teams #1, because they want her to get on track.

That's all I can remember. If anyone else heard the interview, feel free to expand or correct me.

I don't know how anyone could debate who the best hitter ever at OU has been. It is Lauren all the way. I expect she will be the best hitter in the history of the college softball before it is over. You take batting average, runs, hits, Hrs, RBI, Slg, and OBP - it really isn't close.

About mid-season I would like to see a list of the top 30 softball players in the country just to see how many are from OU.

That is 100% true! A good problem to have, nevertheless a problem!

The team is in Phoenix and will practice this evening. It will be interesting to see which pitchers Patty goes with on this trip. I'm not real sure it matters though.

OU plays two games today in Tempe, AZ. First game at 10am against Boston University. Second game at 2:30pm against Washington.

1st game vs. Boston U. - Stevens on the mound and still no Georgia Casey in the lineup. Kady Self is in LF.

I see on ESPN that OU leads 5-1 after one. I see nothing on livestats.

I see that Iowa State beat Mississippi in the Battle of the Beach in Conway, SC, 4-2. Iowa State beat Utah State 3-0 and 10-7 and South Dakota State 6-0 and 5-3 in the Cyclone Invitational. They are now 5-0.

Ah! Chamberlain strikes again, 3-run HR. #76. Needs 15.

14-1 after four.

OU needs to do something about their LiveStats - they have gone cheap and it never works. We should get good Live Stats from Washington this afternoon.

Wow! I sure hope Lauren smashes that record quickly!

Paige Parker going in Game #2. Vest is going to bat with Tori Nirschl as the DP for Parker.
