Other than the obvious, a couple of things really stood out today. We had gone through the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings quietly. We got a single in the fourth and fifth, I think. That was about it. Our bats that had boomed in the first couple of innings had been silenced. Then, Washington came back.
Top of the seventh: our silent bats suddenly came alive.
Shelby with a single to right
Parker sacrificed her to second
Erin Miller got a single to left, scoring Shelby
Kady singled to center, advancing Miller to third
1. We have three singles after having silent bats, and we get the lead back.
2. Ellis squeezed Miller home. Gasso loves to bunt a run across, especially an insurance run as important as this one would be.
Hatfield and Arnold grounded out.
Then, we can't get Washington out. So, Gasso pulls the next outstanding move.
3. Gasso puts Parker back in to finish the game. Great move.
I had actually thought that it might have been better if it had come a batter earlier--at least that was when I was thinking of it. But, if anyone was going to stop it, it appeared that it would be Parker, and by putting Parker back in the game, she sent a message that she was a trusted arm in critical conditions----a freshman.
These three things at the end of the game told a story.
I must admit that I was concerned. Washington showed me something. They had been totally silent. But, they didn' quit. Tough team.
