Sooners in the Pros: 2016-17

Also as an FYI, Isaiah's first game in the D-League is tomorrow at 7 ET. I think all D League games are streamed on facebook live.

Some of the D-League games are actually playing on espn2, but idk if any of Isaiah's games will be.

The Sooners and staff watched him play in Orlando tonight. Lost but he had 8-5-5.... needs more mins!

And they cut his minutes tonight. They're 2-10 why don't they just throw him out there for 30 minutes a night? What else could happen, they keep losing? Lol

Buddy Hield getting his minutes cut

Buddy Hield got his minutes cut significantly, only got about 6 minutes the last two games, they won however.

Re: Buddy Hield getting his minutes cut

Makes no sense, they are losing & playing guys with little future with the team.

Re: Buddy Hield getting his minutes cut

It's possible he's a little banged up, or the coach may just want him to get his bearings a little. Sometimes sitting out and watching can serve that purpose.

Re: Buddy Hield getting his minutes cut

They got Jrue Holiday back at guard, that may be part of the reason.

Re: Buddy Hield getting his minutes cut

Just a reminder to everyone. Instead of making new threads every few NBA games, try to keep the discussion of Sooner players in the pros in this thread.

Bingo. Holiday will move to the starting lineup pretty quick. Buddy has been bumped to the 5th guard..... 3rd shooting guard behind Moore and Galloway. Frankly, both of those guys are playing better than Buddy.

Bring down your iron fist upon the heads of the offenders!

If Buddy wants to increase his minutes he's got to make more shots. His current average of 38% from the field (25% from three) through the first 14 games is not the way to do it.

We all know what he can do. But, for some reason, his shot haven't been falling during his debut at the next level.

The organization fully expected to be a playoff team going into this season. They've been in win-now mode for years. They fired Monty Williams a year and a half ago despite a playoff appearance that season.

They're not going to suddenly reverse course less than a month into the season. With Holiday just returning, they'll give this team time to play its way into the playoff race, assuming Anthony Davis stays healthy.

You can make a very strong argument that New Orleans should be in rebuilding mode right now--and I would agree--but that's not going to happen unless ownership calls for it. Neither Dell Demps nor Alvin Gentry have the job security to eschew a win-now mentality in favor of a long-term approach. Those guys are too busy fighting for their jobs right now to worry about what's best for the franchise a few years down the road.

Is Mark Cuban the owner of the Pelicans now? Refusing to rebuild lol :ez-laugh:

They have understandable reasons for being reluctant to undergo a rebuilding effort.

The biggest reason is Anthony Davis. For one, a team can only be so bad with him on the roster. Despite the 0-8 start, they've come on strong recently. Sure, they may not even be a playoff team, but that doesn't make it easy to embrace tanking. At this point in his career, what effect does a complete rebuilding effort have on Anthony Davis's relationship with the team? This is his fifth season; players start getting impatient by that point.

Another consideration is that New Orleans has a fickle NBA fan base. Rebuilding hurts the bottom line in the short-term. It's easy for us to overlook that aspect because it's not our money, but it matters to owners.

The Philadelphia 76ers had the right model, they just didn't execute (had they drafted Porzingis over Okafor, they'd be set). New Orleans is kind of screwed because having Anthony Davis means they can't ever get to the top of the lottery. They need Buddy to reach his maximum potential. He is off to an awful start though, and it's extremely troubling. He is the type of player that should have hit the ground running in the league.

Makes sense, hopefully starts gaining minutes because of his play rather than where he was drafted.
