Will the Big 12 Tournament come back to OKC?

We need to think strategic and completely ditching KC is not a wise move. The Big XII PR machine needs to be in full mode of declaring KC & Texas Big XII country.

Missouri may have tucked their tail and ran away to the SEC but the Big XII is not going to abandon KC. A&M may have ran away after failure in the Big XII but the conference added TCU and is committed to being the premier conference for the state of Texas.

As Missouri and A&M go and continue being a non factor in the SEC like they have been in the Big XII the KC and Texas markets will become even more loyal to the Big XII.

That may not be enough to appease the conference leadership...9k is small.

I think 9K would be big enough for the sessions up until the finals. Is there any reason they couldn't move the finals to the BOK? The men's and women's finals aren't usually on the same day so that might work.

It will be a VERY sad day when Kansas City no longer hosts the Big 12 Tournament.

And this is coming from somebody who hates KU more than any other soul walking the planet.

Winner.

I've attended it in OKC and in Dallas. When OU was in the Finals in OKC, the Myriad was close to full. Reunion Arena in Dallas was never full, no matter who was playing, from what I understand.

Not surprised about the Dallas thing.

They didn't roll out for the men either when I was there in 2004.

Dallas was decent in 2003, but it was a disaster every other time it hosted it. It's just simply not a college town. If you weren't in town for the Tournament, you really had no idea the Tournament was even happening there.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I'd be all over a three-year rotation where you go to KC twice and OKC once. KC, KC, OKC, KC, KC, OKC. The Myriad is the X-factor. The conference has never sniffed the attendance for the OU women's big games anywhere else. 12-13,000 people is a lot of bonus money for the coffers.

Would be all for this.

I would give Tulsa at least one chance, to see if they would support it well. But no city should have it every year. KC, KC, OKC or KC, OKC, TUL would be good.

I would love to see us give Tulsa a chance!

We did so-so with the C-USA tourney a few years ago... for the most part, a lot of empty seats (ESPECIALLY on the womens side) but it was only because the wrong teams were still in it. If Tulsa and/or Memphis stayed deeper, we would have sold out the final games, methinks.

KU fans traveled pretty well to Tulsa for the first rounds of the NCAAs last year. I don't think the Big 12 tourney would be much different.

I see how we'd want to keep KC in Big 12 turf, but there needs to be some way of saying that Mizzou abandoning the Big 12 was not cool and the KC bball tourney would be one way of showing that.

Sounds like the tourneys will be split up after this year as the contract with Municipal is up and looks like the intent is to move the women to OKC since is has been by far the most successful. They are also moving the tourneys to where there is no direct competition (no overlapping dates) from the other tourney. I see no reason to continue in KC when there is not a Big 12 team within Missouri after this year. If they are going to resort to rotating, based on past history, OKC should have it twice and then off a year, i.e. - OKC, OKC, Dallas (or Tulsa), OKC, OKC, etc. OKC is more centrally located, less expensive for the fans, has been more successful in past than Dallas and they are still playing in an NBA arena (if that's what they want). It should have never been given only to KC in the first place IMO.

If they are bound and determined to split the tournaments, they could have the women's in OKC one year and Tulsa the next. That way one city doesn't have it all the time. ;)

it will be great if the Big 12 Tournament comes back to Oklahoma City

tulsa has little to no chance ...

OKC/Dallas are the future homes of big 12 basketball

Why? Tulsa is closer to KSU, KU, and ISU than OKC and has a new arena. I don't like Tulsa (at all) but I think Tulsa has as good a chance as OKC.

I don't understand why any Big XII fan that did not live in KC or Lawrence would support such a ridiculous concept as having the tournament in KC 2/3 of the time. I don't think it should ever be in KC again. If the State of Missouri did not think about this when they left the conference, too bad.

Why? Are they already building the hotels?

I know that there is at least one new hotel that is going to be built right across the street from the BOK Center. The old city hall is being converted in to a hotel and I think there is another one planned, as well.

Once again...there are states that host conference tournaments where no team is located. See the West Coast Conference.

This isn't the West Coast Conference. And it's an exception rather than rule when it happens.

Tulsa/Grand Lake was just announced as the site for the 2013 Bassmaster Classic. (It sounds funny, but don't laugh - it's an event that will draw 75-100K people.)

You're right, it does sound funny.

I won't pretend to be any kind of outdoorsman. I have gone fishing a few times in my life (thanks, Granddad Oakes), but I've certainly never paid to watch someone else do it.

God bless all 100K of 'em; knock yourselves out.

Haha, awesome.

I'm an intern at OKC All Sports. Exciting stuff if we can get the Tourney to come to OKC! :clap
