#19 OU vs #36 OSU thoughts

At #19 coming from the Big XII OU currently falls into the no briner category. We just have to maintain it. I keep hearing aggy say the ranking is meaningless this early but we are approaching half way through the season. You would much rather be at 19 than 35.

You have ZERO quality wins (RPI top 50) right now.

I would bet hard currency that if you were #19 in RPI with ZERO quality wins, you would NOT get in.

Heck, OU is the answer to a trivia question (or at least WAS the answer a few years back). What is the highest RPI rating for a team which did not get an at-large invite to the Dance? Answer: 31 (1994 Sooners).

I think Missouri State "beat" OU's mark a few years ago, when they were something like #19 or #20 in RPI, but didn't get in. IIRC, they were upset in the finals of the MVC tourney.

I think OU's mark is the highest RPI "from an AQ conference" to not get in.

As for these OU-OSU cat-fights, I remember the good ol' days when the two fan bases argued over which team was BETTER rather than WORSE. Two of the best teams which did not win a title last decade are the '02 Sooners and the '04 Pokes...and the past few years we've been arguing over which one gets to be Valedictorian of summer school. Let's hope for better times ahead. It would be great for both schools.

Amen, brother.

Amen, brother.

After we beat OSU on Saturday we still won't have any "quality" wins

The most under-reported stat in the Oklahoma media: 128-94. :OU-logo:

That would be true if they were selecting this week, the fact is, we are from a conference where we will have to have some quality wins to keep that ranking (i.e. OSU, KSU, Baylor).

Agreed, but that's not what boca was saying.

He was saying a team with #19 RPI was a "no brainer" to get in, when that's simply not the case.

The committee has shown time and time again that quality wins are probably the most important factor. That typically is the case with high-RPI teams, but not always.

You can build a high RPI without any quality wins by simply avoiding playing lots sub-150 RPI teams, but beating teams in the ~60-150 range. That's basically what OU has done to this point in the season.

There's obviously the opportunity to get several high-quality wins ahead in conference play.

Exactly what I'm saying. If we maintain our #19 RPI coming from the big 12 we are in as a no brainer no matter what. Aggy not good at reading or math which is why they're aggys.

Is there any evidence of a team which finished in the top 20 in the RPI which did not receive an invite to the NCAA tournament?

Just did a quick look up to the '05-06 season. Every single team which finished in the top 20 in the final RPI has made the NCAA tournament.

That was a clown post. Lon Kruger coaches circles around your measly little napoleon-wannabe consummate little-man syndrome pathetic excuse for a coach.

Ol' unibrow Lonnie hasn't made it past the sweet 16 since Big Country was an underclassmen. Oh yah, by the way, unibrow Lonnie has made it past the 2nd round only THREE times in 26 years of college coaching.

Fans may try to avoid the truth, but facts don't lie.

Too bad OSU leads in NCAA tournament wins, final fours, and national championships. Oh yah, did you know OU is 0-3 against OSU in the Big 12 tourney? Ouch.

If you have to rely on the 1940s to make your point, your argument is DOA. The only one of the four points you made that has any relevance is the NCAA Tournament victories since you've accomplished that with less NCAA Tournament appearances. The Final Four totals are 2-2 and the NCAA Championships are 0-0 starting when 99% of the people on this board have been alive. As for your last point, do you really want to talk trash on the head-to-head debate? Really?

How does Travis Ford measure up to this?

Does that read 1-3? Yah it does, and I think that was the point of T_Neal's Twitter's post... I will take that unibrow over this guy any day of the week:

This thread will be even more ironic than it already is when that underground bunker/gymnastics center looks like a demilitarized zone on Saturday, this while hosting your rival. I've seen deer run through the LNC over the past half decade.

I don't know about deer, but I saw crying aggies running from the LNC after getting their butts kicked.........:ez-laugh::ez-laugh::clap

Let's see if you are back to trash talk after the stinker your OVER-RATED team produced in OUr bunker...........

Oh yeah, SCOREBOARD!!!!!!!!

Yes Boca the standings after ONE conference game are what they are. You beat West Virginia, we lost @ Kansas St.

How about this. Straight up Bet on Saturday's game. Fan of losing team doesn't post on this board between Bedlam games.

Woot as they say!
