March Madness and Covid-19

You didn't include all your replies. After those posts I asked you if you really thought the world was undergoing a mass delusion and you said "that's exactly what I'm saying" (or something along those lines, I didn't wade back through 100 pages to find your exact words.) I don't think anyone would say it's a worldwide mass delusion at this point. That's pretty simple, right?

I'm going to try to simplify this for you, because apparently those quotes were too difficult for you to follow:

You: This virus is at MINIMUM 8X more deadly than influenza
Me: That data is flawed and I expect the death rate numbers will plummet as we get better data.
You: If that data is flawed, then the world has undergone mass delusion.

Again...the data was flawed and death rate estimations have plummeted. If that means the world had gone mass delusion, then by golly, I'd have to agree. But unless you think the predicted death rates haven't plummeted, you said it first.

As the deaths pile up I would submit that the world has NOT undergone a mass delusion, but whatever. Like I said, I don't want you to get the wrong idea, I totally respect what you do.

From the article:

"It isn’t hard to guess why. New York has, by far, the highest population density in the U.S. among cities of 100,000 or more. Commuters crowd trains, office workers crowd elevators, diners crowd restaurants. No other American city has the same kind of jammed pedestrian life as New York — Times Square alone gets 40 million visitors a year — or as many residents packed into high-rises. The city even has a neighborhood called Corona, which, it turns out, has among the highest rates of coronavirus infections."

I have been saying this for over two weeks now. The policy/guidelines established were highly over-reactive to what was actually going on in most parts of the country. I don't fault the experts nor the decision makers.....they have been working off of faulty and incomplete data. But it's now time to revise guidelines and incrementally open things up (with proper protocols of course). I finally got my haircut today (in Okmulgee) on my way home from Tulsa. I'm pretty excited about it.....:D

Some good news I can share with you guys.

Since nursing homes have been particularly hard hit, we launched a program to test every single veteran in nursing homes/long-term facilities in our catchment area for SARS-COV-2. As of last night, every single veteran in our catchment area living in one of these facilities has had a Covid-19 test collected and submitted, minus 2 or 3 patients that refused the test. The total number of tests is about 450. We won't get the results until next week. Most of these patients are asymptomatic so it will be interesting to see if we get any positives. I hope they are all negative.

Finally....see, it wasn't that hard.:D I'm just giving you a hard time. Even though you and I disagree on most topics surrounding this pandemic, I appreciate you being out there.....and Eielson too.

I would be a total hypocrite if I allowed this post to pass unnoticed. Well done, steverocks35! Be sure to share the results of these tests with us if you can.

Hold that, "Get off my lawn" crowd down test'em! Just kidding. Good job!

Keep your mask on! I'm going to order a Bane mask to look cool and have a little fun.

LUCKY!

The lines at places that cut hair will be the longest lines around come next week when everything opens. BA opened Friday, and when I checked a few places, they were claiming 2-3 waits about 15 minutes after their doors opened.

I need a haircut. But not that bad. lol

Thanks!

I know I sound like a broken record but you guys are playing with fire if you run out to immediately be in public just because businesses are open. I realize the barber is probably wearing a mask, but it’s probably not an N95 mask. He/she will probably be within arm’s length of a few hundred people. Then you are going to sit there for however long it takes for him/her to cut your hair. I’ll just let mine grow out or cut it myself until this thing is really over.

I actually have a barber here locally in Colleyville that I've been going to for over a decade. But lord knows when they are actually going to let barber shops open up down here.....likely another two weeks at least.

I actually stopped in at one of those Great Clips franchises (similar to supercuts) and since I checked in online....I had absolutely no wait once I arrived. There were 3 stylists all spread out in the space and all were wearing masks/gloves. She did a fairly decent job as well. It's about a 35-minute drive from south Tulsa to get down there. I think I'm good for another 3 weeks.

yeah, seen a bunch of hits on stories of blood-clots.

Yeah, anecdotally the physicians here have found high D-dimer, which is a sign of clotting, in Covid-19 patients and have started ordering them routinely for all PUIs.

I saw 6 new symptoms as they are going back through old diagnosis (whats the plural) and new complaints. It's an interesting case study but so painful to this culture. And Ive seen some of the saddest stories.

Doctors are learning about this on the fly. This is a once-in-a-lifetime situation (I hope).

By the way, Fauci says we need to double our testing capacity before we open up businesses. I saw an expert interviewed this morning who says every worker that comes in close contact with the public (grocery workers, hair dressers, barbers, fitness center workers, etc.) needs to be tested and have testing available to them if/when they have symptoms. I work in a hospital and I haven't been able to be tested although every chance I get I ask to have our entire staff tested.

they should teach the so-called "at risk" to set up a clean area in their home and use their porches as control point access. that would save lives. these people have no clue how to minimize exposure. I've people with some of the most ignorant ideas of how to address this. It's like they never went to school at all. So much is just basic biology and science. oh well.
