March Madness and Covid-19

So.....I've been busy with work today. Is Oklahoma, or Tulsa specifically, going into lock down tomorrow at noon as I've been told?

I think Trump's main appeal to his supporters boils down to one thing.....he fights.

I see more tantrums than fights.

Trump has personal character issues...no doubt. But so did Clinton, JFK, Churchill and FDR

I don't think that is really a fair assessment... Trump is extreme. Do all humans have faults? Absolutely. Have we had quirky world leaders? You bet. Trump is on the extreme end of that. I think it is a little disingenuous to be like, "yea, Trump has a character issue, but Churchhill was crass and a drunk"... Like I said, he is on the extreme end. Maybe the most extreme example of number of character issues.

One question though.... do you believe he is dumb? How would you rate his intelligence compared to other Presidents?

Having said that, I have been pleasantly surprised and in agreement with most of his policies. He has governed far more conservative/libertarian that I could have imagined

I am in disagreement with most of policies. Of course, there are just some things everyone can agree on. In terms of Supreme Court justices, those were basically fed to him by the Federalist Society, who claimed he could throw a dart and hit anyone on their list and they would be happy.

I believe a large segment of folks on the right had grown tired of being told how bad they were (racist, greedy, sexist, etc.) from the Obama Administration, most of the media, universities, Hollywood, etc. and it finally boiled over. Add to that, another segment of voters were sick of business as usual in DC and clamored for an outsider.

Things like racism, greed, sexism, etc are typically not considered admirable attributes of man, or society. If I hate homosexuality, and some new world order comes in and tells me I am bad for hating gay people, they are probably going to be mad. Doesn't justify the mindset. However, it's not really something an administration can weed out. Time will weed these things out. In the 1950's it was a big deal that a white woman date a black man. Time weeded that out. Before that, it was a big deal that a black man have any rights. Time weeded that out. Of course, it helps when society turns on the sentiment. Eventually white people got involved in civil rights in the 1960's and pushed through reforms that were needed for equality.

He's taken on China, worked to resolve some issues in the Middle East and made the US energy independent. The economy under his watch (until recently) has been robust.

It's always good for a demagogue to have a foe. China and Mexicans are his foe. Our business leaders and political figures sold out to China for a really long time. But he describes Xi as his close friend, and he knows he needs China. Plus, not much he can really do about China at this point, it's too late.

The US was already energy independent.

There are, of course, certain things I agree with... I don't agree with a lot of his politics... but treating veterans better, treating active-duty soldiers better, ending wars (which hasn't been as quick as I expected), making favorable trade deals, etc are things I would expect most people to be in favor of.

You see what you want to see. Case in point. There is no evidence Trump was ever against same sex marriage yet the left labels him a homophobe.

Obama spent most of his life against same sex marriage yet the left labels him a non homophobe.

If you do "not" molest children then you are "not" a pedophile.

How things become topsy turvy is beyond me for you would think it's all about convenience.

When Obama was addressing state attorney generals he referred to Kamala Harris as being "the best looking attorney general." If Trump does the same thing he's a misogynist, but not for Obama. See how that works. It's made to order. I personally could care less about the comment at hand, but the double standard is part of the playbook. Eyes wide shut for one yet eyes wide open for another. It is shameful.

Wow we’ve hit a new milestone, 10,000 new cases reported in one day in America

Youre actually backing my point up technically bc i bet you were gushing at one point. I just crave consistency and im saying your prediction #2 will be wrong and im pointing out a related concept that i believe is true.

all you did was reinforce a stereotype. I disagreed with obama many times but now I am being nudged to say I wasn't against your NO PROOF blank assertion of a stereotype. if you guys are gonna complain that I generalize all the right then you damn sure better recognize it on your side as well. And now that you know if you continue to operate in this mindset then you're either delusional or ignorant.

Back on topic, looks like Stitt is finally shutting down the state...

I can't see where anything will change. Anybody that can work from home, likely already is. The list of what is considered essential damn near covers everything. I would change little at this point.

Boy.....this is a complicated answer. Do I think he is dumb?....no. To get to the position he is in, it takes some smarts in order to accomplish that. I wouldn't label him brilliant or smart in the traditional sense from a politician's standpoint. Meaning he hasn't spent his life in the public forum garnering experience from debates and policy discussions, etc. However, the advantage that he has over most/all of his predecessors is what we might call (for lack of a better term) "street smarts or savvy". He has the ability to read people along with the ability to tap into or connect with people regarding certain issues. And then build a message around that issue(s) that garners support. This is his best attribute as a politician. I don't necessarily agree with his methods all the time, but it worked enough to get him elected. And unlike any other President we have known in my lifetime, he will come back at you if you criticize him (rightly or wrongly).

As a side note, I'm not mesmerized by "word salad" or vocabulary linguistics....I've learned in my career and from my mentors that "vague platitudes" are a lot of polish and smoke. Trump is not an orator.....as a matter of fact, I believe he is a very poor presenter/speaker. And it really hurts him at times. I cringe when wanders too far off script because he is going to say something dumb. He doesn't think all that well on his feet in a formal, press-conference type of environment either. But that is not a dis-qualifier to me. I want someone who will go back and digest questions and issues before making statements with absolute certainty. And I've read he is exceptional behind-the-scenes when working with people to resolve issues....this something that not many hear about.

From my amateur perspective, Trump is at his best when:
  • he is CEO (not talking) and can delegate to his staff and experts to come up with ideas and then craft solutions and legislation from that point.
  • he is at Trump rallies because he is in his comfort zone around people that support him

And of course, he wants all the credit for everything.

Yeah...KC didn’t seem to change too much either. Restaurants are curb side pick up only.... use to be able to walk in and order to go.

So again, not a lot different

Partially true. His order is only for counties that have COVID19 cases, which at this point are 19 of the 77 counties.

In his order, it prohibits any elective medical or dental procedure. He also bans any groups of 10 or more, at any function. He orders the closure of gyms, spas, hair salons, and tattoo parlors. He also recommends closing any non-essential business, which he really doesn't define and refers back to the CDC guideline, which is just a guideline.

The strangest part of his order today is issuing a shelter in place for "vulnerable groups", whatever that means. Everyone else can go about things within the guidelines.

Overall, he basically walked the line today wanting to sound more restrictive but didn't order a whole lot more than OKC, Tulsa, and Norman had already done.

Well that’s ludicrous, viruses don’t care what county you’re in. What kind of BS is that? Lol

yellow president lays it off on the governor ... yellow governor lays it off on the cities ...
actually I've been pleased with OKC mayor's response for the most part

I left off any mention of the country that laid it off on us because it would sound racist.

Unfortunately you want one of the ones at the top to just take over and halt things.

Well apparently at least half the country was tired of the trash being put on them by the left.

I’m pro-life, pro heterosexual, white, male, guess middle class.... and for most of Obama’s terms I was considered racist, homophob, anti women, white privileged...

All that crap got real old real quick.

Ya want an abortion...fine don’t use MY tax dollars and say what it is... murder.
Ya want to be gay, fine, don’t get all pissy when I tell you I don’t agree with it nor accept it’s normal.
I’m from euro decent... big deal... my parents worked and sacrificed for us kids.

Just sayin... apparently half of us were tired of the bull crap.

Being intolerant during an intolerant time doesn’t make it right.

It's refreshing to see a few of you who are center/left recognize the Bernie wackos for what they are.

I’m a democrat that honestly doesn’t know whether I’m slightly left/right or dead center. I’ll give my view when asked, but being in Oklahoma is exhausting when it comes to politics.

Yeah it’s insane, we need a uniform federal response

He's supporting it by doing it. People look up to leaders. It's hard wired in our brains. Obama is a killer. Facts.

He didn’t say cigarettes might be a vaccine for ****, he just had some. Doing something and promoting something is different.

If you know something is unhealthy then why tell the masses you do it.
