I get tired of talking about the same thing in the offseason so I figured we could do something different.

1) what do you believe will be the best defensive lineup
2) What do you believe will be the best offensive lineup
3) what do you believe will be the best "tallest/biggest" lineup
4) What do you believe will be the lineup when we need to press and push the ball?

1)
PG hornbeak
SG Cousins
SF clark
PF mbaiye
C osby

2)
PG: heild
SG: Pledger
SF: Clark
PF: Mbaiye
C: Osby

3)
PG: Cousins
SG: Clark
SF Mbaiye
PF Osby
C Fitz

4)
PG Grooms
SG Cousins
SF clark
PF Mbaiye
C osby

After filling at these lineups I noticed that I had mbaiye and osby in every lineup, and I only had fitz and pledger in a few lineups.

How could our best Offensive line-up not have fitz in it when he is our best offensive player?

Give me...
1. Cousins
2. Pledger
3. Clark
4. Mbaye
5. Osby

The best defensive lineup is the lineup that does not turn the ball over. That means it has Grooms at pg. Even though Pledger is not a great defensive player, I will go with a returning 2 year starter as the better defensive player over a freshman.

I don't even understand the concept of the biggest/tallest lineup. If it is the biggest lineup with a chance to compete, I think it is Cousins, Pledger, Clark, M'Baye and Fitzgerald or Osby. If it is simply the biggest lineup, it is Arent, Fitsgerald,, M'Baye, Osby and Clark.

I think the starting lineup will be Grooms, Pledger, Clark or Hield or Hornbeak, Osby and M'Baye. Fitzgerald plays a lot of minutes.

Lol, meant to say if we decide to go big what lineup would you choose.

Yea, I know he can score but I dunno why I just havent ever been a fitz fan...I cant explain it but im just not...I guess I think when we pass the ball to him down to him he always jacks it up he rarely looks to pass it back out

I agree. I just think we have a ton more options next year.

I think it begins with grooms, but cousins eventually takes the spot ...

From what I have read Cousin's scoring ability is ahead of his ability to run an offense. Because of that I am guessing we will use him mostly as a scoring spark of the bench all season as he learns the offense. Usually you want a starting PG who is ready to run the offense, get other players going, and limit turnovers. I am guessing Groom is way ahead of Cousins in those areas and will be all season. Don't forget that most JUCOs make a jump from Jr to Sr year, also.

I think that the expectations for the freshmen are a little unrealistic, particularly as to their being prepared to play PG at the D-1 level. I think that at least one and hopefully two of them will be able to contribute off the bench, but I hope people aren't disappointed when they aren't immediate stars.

My "guess" and that is all that anyone can make at this point is:

Grooms [Cousins]
Pledger [Heild or Hornbeak]
Clark [Heild or Hornbeak]
M'Baye* [Fitz*]
Osby [Fitz]

*I know that everyone has said that in practice M'Baye has played on the wing, but at 6'9" and what highlights I've seen, at least defensively he is going to play closer to the rim.

*I know that Fitzgerald is our best low post threat on offense in a half court setting, but he cannot do what he was asked to do on defense last season on a consistent basis and be successful.

Spot on post, IMO!

I agree with your starting lineup to begin the season, yet I believe the competition for playing time and a spot in the top seven in our rotation will be fierce this fall.

Last year's starters really didn't have anyone to push them for playing time. I expect to see that change. M'Baye's presence alone will move someone to the bench, and it won't come deep into our schedule either. Players who don't play hard on defense or hustle after every rebound and loose ball, may be watching games from the bench. Slumping shooters and one-dimensional players who don't find others ways to contribute could be right there with them.

Frankly, I will be very disappointed if Coach Kruger tolerates poor play from anyone next season. And with our depth receiving a nice boost in talent from the newbies coming in, I don't believe he will.

I don't know how much time any of the new guys get, especially with Cam and Pledger getting pt. Also, could Mbaye get time at a wing? They used guys like him at the wing at UNLV. If he logs time at the wing and in the paint, that's less time that the three guards get. Whoever plays the best at the PG will have a leg up.
