Now Wake needs a coach...

Capel would take that job in a heart-beat if they offered it to him.... IMO.

Kind of a weird time for them to fire him. Let the rumors swirl... :capelspin

try selling your fan base on a coach who has lost 9 straight games....If Capel had a winning season this year than i could see Wake Forest making a very serious play for Capel. Unless Wake gets desperate Capel may have too many question marks to be hired by another major school at this point.

They want Pat Kelsey, who is a 30 something year old assistant. Supposed to be a recruiting guru.

ESPNinsider does say Capel's name.

Stevens needs to coach another year and wait for a UCONN or something to open up. As high as his stock will be the next two years, he doesn't need to settle for anything less than a top tier job.

Hell, I'm going to make up a resume and buy a nice suit and throw my name into the ring. I'm 32 and look around 20 something, I could be the next Brad Stevens.

Does Stevens ever leave Butler? Or does he become like Mark Few at Gonzaga?

If Stevens wants, he could probably get the Pacers job when it opens up..seriously. Has great qualities and demeanor for an NBA coach.

I totally agree. This could be it. This is the first job I could see Capel taking. He could take them to the Elite 8/Final 4 in 2 years. Unlike Virginia or whevever else he has been rumored.

I'm not one of those guys that thinks Capel or Stoops are going to leave every year. But at this time with this mess and not much to look forward to, Capel could DEFINETLY jump ship for Wake like Kelvin did for Indiana.

Yes it can happen but Wake fired a coach that didn't deserve it. I don't think Jeff wants that rep to follow him around, jumping ship and leaving a school as bad as he found it. That would not set him up for the future.

Third best school in the state and mostly an afterthought in Carolina except for Wake alum.

Third best behind Duke and North Carolina isn't too bad. I think that actually could be a benefit to the Wake program being so close in proximity.

I don't know alot, but I do know this....IF Capel was offered the job the moving vans couldn't get to Norman fast enough.

It would absolutely SHOCK me if Wake Forest offered their head coaching job to a guy coming off of a 13-18 season.

Me as well. Not that I don't think Coach Capel is worthy, I just don't think he's going anywhere real soon. He's got lots to prove now. He will though. He's the man.

Not to mention the fact that Wake is a damn good job. I think people forget that. We're talking about a school that has produced Tim Duncan and Chris Paul.

Is this seriously a topic; I mean I am not one of the people crying for Capel to be fired or anything, he's our guy and we should stick with him through the tough year . . . but lets be honest there isnt a line forming to take him off our hands. In college basketball it is all about what you have done lately. Ernie Kent took Oregon to two elite 8s and he got pink slipped two weeks ago. Capel's stock is at its lowest point since when he started at VCU. We dont have to worry about him leaving for a better job, he really is lucky to have the job he does at this point. At this point, in Wake Forest's eyes he is closer to being Quin Snyder than he is Jeff Capel circa 2006.

Auburn and Gene Chizik.

Capel has a lot of qualities which would be appealing for Tobacco Road...but I don't think he leaves.
