OU @ Baylor 8pm CST on ESPNU

It’s deflating that a double digit loss is good enough to seem like major progress. Ultimately, it’s another L.

Agree it’s not good enough. Hopefully Oweh and Bam can build on this, and we can upset some of these bastards down the stretch. I am not expecting it with this team, though. Too many mistakes against mostly very good competition (refs have cost us few games, too). It has been a terrible sports year for major ou sports. Much Brighter days ahead for both programs.

One of the bright spots for me is that two that I basically wrote off as a possibly poor attitude and unable to play in league play are proving me wrong. I hope they keep it up. I was pleased with tonights effort. It is just so hard to win for us when we aren't great.

I also wonder what Sherfield looks like this 2nd half of conference play if guys like Oweh and Bamisile get more run the 1st half. Again, probably the same. But just wonder with a couple more athletic guys.

Not that it would have mattered in any other game we’ve lost, but wonder what Bamisile and Oweh look like with more Big 12 minutes under their belt ahead of tonight. Tons of athleticism, but look rusty at times for lack of a better word. Then again, everyone on the team has those moments. Sigh.

This team is so predictable. Text my brother at 8:22 that we are going to stay connected enough(and we actually took a lead, so even better) to keep me interested just to not get over the hump. Sucks. Enjoyed the effort tonight though. Didn’t look like a team that’s given up.

Welcome to the board! I see you’ve been a member for quite a while but never posted before tonight. Always nice to get a fresh perspective. And I think your post is dead on lol. Reminds me of the game in Lawrence. Late in the first half I turned to my friend and said that even though I go into every game in Lawrence knowing we will lose, we usually play well enough to suck me in, only to break my heart. Same thing tonight, as you predicted to your brother.

Watched the 2nd half. Didn't Moser take Bam out of the game when OU was running neck and neck with Baylor? At the time he was an offense spark and things went downhill soon after.
Moser can really pick the right times to kill momentum. His instincts stink managing a game.

The most egregious example of this was early in the second half when Jacob hit a three and then got in the lane for a nice floater. Five seconds later he was subbed out and that was that. I just don't get it.

I don’t think substituting the entire lineup every 45 seconds is really a good strategy, cotton.

Thanks! Ha. I’ll post more. Been around since my join date lurking on my twin brothers account, never got around to bothering Boulder enough to reset my account. Finally decided to make a conscious effort to do so, so thanks Boulder!

Funny you mention KU… I’m headed to Mexico tomorrow with a buddy that is from Kansas, huge KU fan. I’ve tried to explain to him exactly what you mentioned and he doesn’t get it. So we will be there in some resort pool bar watching OU/KU Saturday and I couldn’t be less excited to watch that game with a KU fan. Lol

Remember watching him come out and thinking… “wait, you’re taking him out when he’s actually making things happen?”

That one I truly did not get. You sit a kid from starting to teach a lesson so to speak, he comes out and looks like maybe said lesson has taken hold, just to pull him when he looks like he’s getting going.

It's funny, when I saw Oweh sitting at the scorer's table I thought to myself, "I bet he's coming in for Jacob."

Yep.

Maybe some of that "lesson learned" is from playing in shorter spurts. Jacob is probably game conditioned, but Basimile probably isn't. But overall, the last few games, the message for most players seems to be "play your guts out for 5 minutes or so, then we'll get you a sub." No guarantee if you leave guys in longer things don't go back to the way they've gone all year.

But why take out a guy that just hit two shots in a row and looks like is starting to heat up? Makes no sense.

I’m starting Sherfield, Uzan, Oweh, Bamisile, and Hill. Go small and athletic and push the tempo.

I just explained why that might happen. Could be a defensive matchup issue/substitution as well. Lots of reasons. Two shots isn’t heating up. If you start playing a guy less bc of his play all season, you don’t lengthen his leash bc he hits two shots.

Yep, groves had a chance to get us within 1 late in the game and bricked 2 wide open 3s. That was game over. He wouldn’t be playing many minutes on the other conference teams.

Sure but maybe he WOULDN'T have bricked them if he hadn't been shuffled in and out of the game every 5 minutes and been allowed to get in some sort of rhythm after hitting two nice shots in a row. This isn't rocket science.

I'm not saying Jacob Groves is a world-beater, but he's a streaky shooter and if he makes two in a row he shouldn't be yanked out of the game seconds later. IMHO

He's a streaky shooter. You DO lengthen his leash when he makes two in a row because the team has been struggling tremendously and you're looking for a spark. Or at least you should be.

I see your point. I would just prefer him not play much, along with cortes. We have a large enough sample size of them not being ready in this conference. I think it is a fair criticism of Moser to wonder why we haven’t seen much from Joe Bam to date. Oweh is a freshman, so I understand why he has been eased in during conference play. I expect him to be playing 25-30 mpg now though and seems like moser agrees.

Agreed, he shouldn't be getting major minutes with the qualifier that if he starts hitting shots you keep him in to see if he can stay hot. I know he can't defend a lick but neither can several other guys on the team.
