This week looks to be a busy week for OU coaching staff and Coach Capel. The coaching staff is fresh off a recruiting visit to Mott Community College in Flint, Michigan to evaluate a high level 6'5 athletic wing in Doug Anderson. I recently spoke with a coach on the Mott staff and they confirmed the visit and confirmed that it was an evaluation at this point and not an offer. Anderson was once committed to Duquesne, but is also showing interest in Oakland University in Michigan.

Also, we've learned that Coach Capel will be in Wichita tonight to watch Perry Ellis and Wichita Heights play against Carroll High School of Wichita. This is one of several visits Capel has made to Wichita.

We are also in efforts to confirm if Coach Capel will still visit Cezar Guerrero, the 5'11 pg from Belmont Shores California as we initially reported some time ago. Guerrero's St. John Bosco team will be playing traditional power house Mater Dei High out of Southern California. It may be a chance for Capel to evaluate 2012 players from their roster as well.

Attached is a youtube clip of Mott Community College Doug Anderson. Anderson is averaging nearly 17pts per game this year. For anyone with a Rivals account, there is more detailed footage on the 6'5 wing. Anderson will have 3 years to play if he completes his grade work this spring.

How much taller is Guerrero than Drew Lavender? Wasn't Lavender more like 5'7"?

Guerrero looks really short in the video I watched...

Love it how Jay-C is either battling the likes of North Carolina, Duke, Kansas and Kentucky for a five-star recruit, or he's battling Oakland University or VCU for a no-star recruit.

Also good to see Jay-C is still plugging away and spending quality recruiting evaluation time on the road for a guy who won't be here for two years while he needs upgrades for next year.

Flame away.

If Capel is recruiting guys who will only be in Norman 2 years, then he is trying to pull a Florida Marlins and have 1 good team so he can make a quick getaway.

The Marlins actually put together 1 good team to win the world series. For those who don't remember they pulled it off and the next year went right back to the cellar. This was 97 or 98 I believe...

Why would anyone flame you for speaking the truth?

I've said before that Osby and Goff will be an upgrade in our front court, and I stand by that statement. But that's not enough to put us in the top half of our own conference, much less compete on a national scale.

When we struggle to pull away or beat the likes of Sac. State, MES, Central Arkansas and practically every team on our schedule this year, it should be obvious to everyone that we need more help than the aforementioned players can give us. I knew going in that this was a rebuilding year. I didn't know we were on a two-year plan.

Agreed on Goff and Osby being upgrades. Now we need some upgrades in the backcourt. Jay-C certainly won't find them tonight watching Perry Ellis. Maybe he's already got them secretly committed? :ez-laugh:

Jay-C watching Ellis for about the 23rd time is going to pay off about as much as his trips to Ames to watch Harrison Barnes run laps around a track at 6 a.m. did.

Now that's funny! I had forgotten about that trip and subsequent reports of how we were "in" with Mr. Barnes.

Well, if Ellis doesn't choose OU, then at least he and Capel can keep in touch via text messages.

Hell, I bought into it at the time. I thought he must really think he's going to get him if he's going to those lengths. Obviously, I thought wrong and we now know Jay-C is wasting his time chasing these guys.

Hey, kudos to him for at least trying and working his ass off in doing so. There's no doubt he's a tireless recruiter, and I think it says something about him that he's able to get visits out of some of these kids. They come and visit out of respect to Jay-C, and that's great.

I just wish he'd realize he's wasting his time with those guys and spend all that tireless work on more obtainable prospects. But hey, he's Jay-C, he's got a rep/image to uphold.

I don't really remember reports we were "in". I think there was hope at best. I am by no means a Capel supporter but I don't think it is fair to crticize the guy for reaching out to the best prospects. You certainly won't sign them if you don't try.

So who the HELL is he suppose to be recruiting? You guys know everything... If he goes after the big fish, you say we wont get them... He goes after the no star recruit... He isnt good enough...

So should he just say screw it... im getting fired, the hell with recruiting...

He is trying. he's got the McD's guys before... (we all know the end result) but he did pull them to Ok...

What do you guys suggest?

Rivals list Cezar as 6'0, 175, I even if that is with the customary 1-2 inches boast he's at least taller than Drew or even TMG.

The bulk of the prospects for 2011 are already committed or signed so anything he gets at this point will be a bonus.

I am interested to see if they make a late run similar to Neal with either Richardson or Raney. I would much prefer Richardson over Raney based on what I've watched.

IMO we don't need to bring in anyone else for 2011 unless we REALLY believe he is an impact guy. We don't need to use a scholarship on another "project"; we just need to keep that scholarship in our pocket for 2012.

yeah I am with B O B, try for shorter guys, don't go for the big star recruits, Oklahoma basketball is dead lets just keep it at that and kill off the program. Who wants to get big star recruits coming to Oklahoma, we only want 1 star or half a star players or maybe just don't use any scholarships just keep saving them til they are all back and we don't have anyone to play.

If there is the need for a big time dunker on the team next year to match up with Cam then Mr. Anderson is the answer.

I agree he has to get the big names, however he needs to have a valid backup plan in the event the big name doesn't choose us. He put all his marbles on getting Jai Lucas and we also missed out on John Roberson. How much better would the team be this year with Roberson running the show?

That is just one example. I don't follow recruiting well enough to name players we lost out on by waiting for Barnes, Jones, or other big name recruits we didn't get. I'm just hoping we avoid scrambling for warm bodies when the big names choose KU, Kentucky, Duke, UNC, or whoever besides us.

If you are an aggie, I love your name (T Shirt Time). That's awesome. :woot

Sorry, but since when does being recruited by University of Oakland and Duquesne make you a "high level" guy??

I don't think we should be recruiting borderline Division 1 guys like we have a roster full of right now.

I do think we should be able to go out and recruit against the likes of Arkansas, A&M, Tech, NC State, Florida State, etc. and get some bball players.

Who knows maybe we can get Perry Ellis but I would be shocked. In the end this program right now isn't very strong and I don't know what the selling point is. Playing time??
