QUICK PREVIEW
In a three-way Big 12 second-place tie, Oklahoma (21-8, 10-6) looks to avenge a Feb. 5 91-86 overtime loss at West Virginia when it hosts the Mountaineers (16-13-7, 8-8) Wednesday at 8 p.m. CT in what will be OU’s final home game of the year. The Sooners, ranked No. 23 in both the AP and USA Today Coaches polls, are 13-3 at home and are coming off a 77-65 win over then-No. 24/23 Texas on Saturday. West Virginia, which is 3-7 in true road games, snapped a three-game losing streak with an 81-59 home win over TCU on Saturday.

ON THE AIR
Wednesday’s contest will air on the Sooner Radio Network (KRXO 107.7 FM and KOKC 1520 AM in Oklahoma City; KTBZ 1430 AM in Tulsa; Sirius 91; XM 91) with Toby Rowland and Mike Houck calling the action. The game will be televised by ESPNU with Clay Matvick and Darrin Horn announcing.

THE SERIES
Oklahoma owns a 4-2 all-time record against West Virginia and is 1-0 in Norman. The Sooners won all three meetings last year while the Mountaineers won this season’s matchup (91-86 in overtime on Feb. 5 in Morgantown). OU is 4-1 in the series with Bob Huggins as WVU’s head coach.

LAST MEETING
In Oklahoma’s overtime loss at West Virginia (box score on page 26 of these notes), the Sooners came back from a 12-point second-half deficit to take a three-point lead with possession with less than a minute left in regulation. But WVU’s Eron Harris hit a 3-pointer with 20 seconds left to tie the game at 81 and force OT. He hit two more treys in the extra session as OU lost back-to-back games for the only time this season. Jordan Woodard led the Sooners with 23 points (8-for-11 field goal shooting) and added four rebounds and eight assists. Tyler Neal scored a season-high 16 points (10-for-11 from the free throw line) and grabbed seven boards in a career-high 30 minutes, while Buddy Hield added 15 points (12 after halftime). Harris finished with a game-high 28 points (had two at halftime) and teammate Juwan Staten had 20 points, 10 rebounds and six assists.

PREVIEWING WEST VIRGINIA
Picked seventh in this year’s Big 12 preseason coaches poll after finishing 6-12 in the league last season, West Virginia (16-13, 8-8) enters Wednesday’s game in sixth place. The Mountaineers posted an 81-59 home win over TCU on Saturday to end a three-game losing streak. They held the Horned Frogs to two 3-pointers and registered a 44-29 rebounding advantage. In Big 12 play, WVU ranks fourth in scoring (74.6 ppg), 10th in scoring defense (77.9), eighth in field goal percentage (.421), second in 3-point field goal percentage (.373), second in free throw percentage (.749) and eighth in rebounding margin (-3.1 per game). The Mountaineers are 3-5 in Big 12 home games with wins over TCU (74-69), Texas Tech (89-86 in OT) and Baylor (66-64).

Three West Virginia players average double figures in points and two of them rank among Big 12’s top three scorers. Junior point guard Juwan Staten averages 18.0 points (ranks second in league) and a Big 12-high 5.9 assists to go along with 5.9 rebounds and a team-high 1.2 steals per game. He leads the Big 12 in free throws made (158) and attempted (216). Sophomore guard Eron Harris is also averaging 18.0 points (has one less point on the year than Staten) with the help of 2.8 3-pointers per game and a .419 3-point field goal percentage (both rank third in the league). Sophomore Terry Henderson, another guard, contributes 12.1 points per outing and is shooting .372 from behind the arc (1.7 makes per game). He has missed the last three outings due to illness.

The Mountaineers are under the direction of seventh-year head coach Bob Huggins, who owns a 149-88 record at West Virginia. The 1977 WVU graduate is in his 32nd season overall and owns a 739-299 career mark.

THis is a big game. I hope the students and fans show up and support the team. OU must win this game. WVU will play hard because their NCAA hopes depend on it and they know it.

I think the Sooners will win this game. They will not only be better prepared and not coming off of a long layover in Newark, our kids are playing better defense now than when we faced WVU on their home floor.

The key is two find a way to contain Staten and Harris. That won't be easy. But if we can keep one or both from going off for big numbers, the game won't even be close.

I agree that OU will win. WVU has not beaten ISU, KSU, OSU, or Texas on the road. They beat Baylor, TCU and Tech fairly early on the road. Tech is a much better team now than they were in first week of January. They beat Baylor by 2 points and Baylor was playing very bad at that point. I don't see WVU beating either OU or KU on the road.

But they play KU at home on Sr. day with Embid out. I could see WVU winning that one to secure a home game in the NIT

I thought that game was in Lawrence. If it is in Morgantown, I think WVU has a better chance but I still think KU will win. In either case, I hope WVU beats KU.

I'm about to head down with my two kids. Let's do this!

Well, crap. My cable company does not carry ESPNU, just ESPN & ESPN2. :facepalm

Anyone know if it will be streamed by justintv or something else?

Big game. I have to admit that I am a bit wary of this one, but of feel we should win at home. I just hope that their kid does not get unconscious from 3 to let them beat us at WVU. We owe them one.

OU 87
WVU 74

This is if we play with focus and intensity which is what I am anticipating. If not, it will be very close.

Reports are a terrible crowd. Hopefully late arrivers...

I just don't understand how people close to Norman or in it don't want to go see a top 20 basketball team play that plays an exciting style of basketball...

It's tough to figure out. I know I'll be driving the 45 minutes to FW to watch us play TCU Saturday.

We need to try to keep them off the boards. I like that Cam seems focused.
