Pieces falling in place for Buzz to OU >>> Dallas Morning News

I think blase' is unfair, we've had a sub-par product for the last two seasons...and about 10 schools inthe country sell out a 15,000 seat arena for Coppin State on a Wednesday in November. Of course our support could be "better", but it is not blase' when we have a Top 25 product.

blasé fanbase

has there ever been a more on target description?

Very interesting. So the big buyout is not nearly so big. The raise needed to bring him may not be so big either.

As I posted in another thread, OU has a huge incentive in trying to boost the quality of their men's basketball program and it is not just about filling seats in LNC. OU men's basketball needs to be in much better shape or else it will cost the University a lot of dollars in their soon to be launched OU Network. Joe C needs to boost the enthusiasm and viewership men's basketball. It is the one sport right now which is not doing well and the public is rather neutral on.

Plus, as this article mentions, Tech has an aggressive, good coach now and we have to be able to compete.

So invest now. And the payoff will come in higher LNC attendance and more importantly in television eyes followed by television revenues. That annuity just pays off year after year.

Exactly, I think far too many people underestimate the influence that the pending Sooner Channel had on the decision to fire Capel.

Lost credibility when he said that one-year salary is the normal buyout of a bball head coach contract. Even if the buyout isn't the originally reported $3.8, his statement is not true either.

I disagree. It is the epitome of blase'.

The person who wrote the article is a journalist, not a lawyer so they don't understand contracts.

The Mizzou AD was on the radio this morning here in KC and explained buyouts in a coaches contract. The buyout is only = the amount of base salary time X years. For Mike Anderson, who was making almost 2 million per year, his base salary of that 2 million (base is defined as that portion paid by the institution) was $275K. The contract MU was owed that amount times 2 years for a buyout, which equals 550K that Arkansas owes MU.

I would guess we would owe Marquette around the same amount, but probably less.

Agreed. But it's closer to an amount equal to one year's salary than the formula the tweeter used to arrive at $3.8 million.

If Buzz is the one, we may discover that nothing we've read has been accurate. But I'm feeling a whole lot better about being able to afford his buyout and salary now.

Buzz is the one.

My sources will remain unnamed (that's because I have none, at least in this case). But there's simply too many indicators that Joe C. has found his man. If the Warriors lose to NC tomorrow, it's my guess that we can expect an announcement on Saturday or Sunday.

More like Monday or Tuesday.

It is appropriate to give Marquette time to respond. Buzz owes them that no matter what.

My guess is Tuesday as well. I would suspect if Marquette loses tonight, the soonest he would interview at Oklahoma is Sunday or Monday. Then an official announcement would come Tuesday. That is all wishful thanking anyway.

This is pretty much what I'm hearing. It'll be a done deal by early next week if Marquette loses.

if it happens and thats a big if, it will be no sooner than next thursday
